Title: f*ckin potholes. Anyone claimed?
Post by: bluquarta on 28 December 2009, 22:09
hit a huge pothole last night on my way back from my parents. initially thought id run over a badger or something it was that loud! Now i've got a nice fat bulge on the sidewall.

Right p*ssed off, firstly they are my 4 month old Rainsport 2's and secondly im trying really hard to put some money away for suspension at the moment and really dont need to be forking out £50 on a tyre. Suspension prob needs doing even more now after that too!!! Im just hoping the alloy is ok

Am i right in saying this is new tyre time? not had this before but im guessing that tyre could be prone to blowing at any point

Secondly has anyone on here successfully claimed from a council?

I wouldn't mind so much if id smacked a kerb or something......Grrrrr

I reckon you'd have trouble trying to prove it

you think you can phone up the council and they'll send you out a cheque

even if you could prove it it'll take you six months to get the dollar out of em

Grab a news paper with the date on it, go to the pot hole and take a picture with a film camera clearly showing the date and the pot hole. That way they cant accuse you of any tampering.

But good luck.

yeah I know, to be honest I wasn't really ever going to attempt to claim. I'd have to drive the best part of 50 miles to where it was now, and could imagine it taking about a year and a shed load of hassle to claim £50 - i really cant be fecked. Was just curious really whether anyone had done it? Oh i cant wait to pay my council and road tax......................

same thing happened to me last year, just got a new set of tires and had my tracking done. pointing perfectly staight.    next day goin 60mph and then hit the pot hole, bent my wheel and huge bulge in the sidewall and tracking went out :-(.

Earlyer in the year i got fined over £300 for buying a car without tax..

WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?????????

I live on a busy A road, and its unbelievably bad for holes. Been patched for the last 2 years, and they only last about 2 weeks before some big lorry has broken it up.

I wrote to the council to find out what they were doing..
Got a nice letter back, which basically said..tough!

the council have to check the roads (every so many weeks) and will have a full list of any major issues on your area....and this will null your claim unless they have left a huge pothole months without attempting a repair and proving that is nearly impossible! (and consider how big they can/do build speed-humps...how big does a pot-hole need to be classed as major?)

Potholes are just the biggest sh!theads of all time other than drivers on the road.  The amount of times I've had to avoid one by jolting the car away from it is silly. We all know the money doesn't go towards fixing the roads.
