Title: Damp doorcard?
Post by: sesterfield on 16 October 2004, 11:15
I noticed today that my drivers side doorcard is getting damp on the underside, I've checked for any obvious leaks but can't see any  :-\ Does anyone have any idea where this could be coming from?

Any help is much appreciated  ;D

yeah there is a plastic membrane behind the door card ant theses usually shrink and let water through. just take the door card out and have a butchers, you might be able to restick it but you might have to cut a new one ;)

Yeah, get some damp proof membrane from a builders merchant, and cut it to shape. Then use some really strong double sided tape, preferably waterproof, to stick it to the door. You could use some waterproof tape over it aswell, to make sure..... Whilst your there, you may as well do the other door too.....

i used this sort of putty that comes in a thin roll. its like blue tack and is waterproof and very stick. works best, also easy to apply. anyone got the name of this stuff as its top stuff?

One of my doors was leaking a while ago, I managed to fix it eventually.  I got a garden sack from BandQ and tried to stick it with waterproof duck tape, but it just would'nt stick.  In the end I stuck it down with  clear sillicone, job done!

I also bought a proper membrane from Vag at a cost of 6quid.  But there not plastic anymore it is like a foam you just cut it size.  But the glue vag use to stick it is about 30quid(so I just laughed at them).  Never did use the membrane as the sillicone sorted it and I could'nt be bothered taking it off again.

Thanks guys :D  I attacked the door with duck tape today (it seems the previous owner had a go at re-sealing the door, and the silicone he used seems to be still intact) and the door card is currently drying by a radiator :P

If that doesn't sort it I'll take the whole lot off and redo it myself :)

also check the drain holes in the bottom of the door isnt blocked up cos if they are your door will fill with water and overflow like a bath!  :o

I just got a mahoosive sheet of plastic sheeting from Focus dirt cheap, cut to size and stuck down with waterproof duck tape.
Tip: Cut an extra bit half size, stick it to the middle of the door and tuck in at the bottom before sticking your top sheet on!
