Title: Head-unit advice needed
Post by: smiiithy on 27 December 2009, 14:45
Hi all,

I've recently purchased a Mk4 Golf GT TDi with standard double-din CD/radio/cassette player. I'm looking to upgrade it and would like one with compatibility for any functions to work with my Samsung Omnia i900. Does anybody have a head unit in their car connected to an Omnia?

The sort of unit I’m looking for would have to have Bluetooth connectivity and hands free to make and receive calls and I would very much like if it had full phonebook transfer ability. It would need to play MP3s and have either USB or SD card support for convenience.

I was looking at a Pioneer FH-P80BT which is nice as the colours match the Golf dials. I set up an automatic bid for a used one on eBay (max bid £175+£10.00P&P) but it was removed from sale. Now I’m struggling to find suitable double-din units that I like and am wondering if I got a single din head unit is there something useful I could fit in the space such as a pocket? Does anybody know a link to any single din pocket/spacer/cover/panel/blanking plate that would fit nicely in the Golf?

My budget for the head unit is around £150 so any suggestions, advice or guidance would be appreciated. I'm looking to buy off eBay so £200 - £250 RRP units should still be within the remit and I'm willing to consider a used unit provided it is complete and in mint condition.

Cheers,

Mike

if you go the single din route then look at the alpine cde-113bt h/u

you can then just buy a vw golf mk4 single din pocket from vw or ebay

I've just been looking at the Pioneer DEH-600BT (http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-pioneer-deh-600bt_p-23302.htm) and it seems this could support the bluetooth handsfree and also stream MP3's from my phone, eliminating the need for any USB or SD slot. That's everything I need for under £200 even from a full priced retailer.

the 600bt is an old unit though hence the cheap price this has been replaced by the 700bt
which i sell at £189.99

I can't see much more the 700bt offers than the 6100BT which is £148.72?

the only real difference between the 2 units is that the 610 has 2 pre outs whereas the 600 only has 1
and the 610 has full usb ipod control built in
