Title: Steering Problems..16v GTI
Post by: stu646 on 27 December 2009, 13:57
Over the last few weeks been having problems with my steering. Like today while turning right in to a side road, my steering wheel seemed to lock up for a few seconds. It only happens while turning right , although not every time. Maybe only 4 times over the week, but when it does happen , can be quite dangerous.

I have checked my power steering tank, which is all topped up.

Any ideas?

How much is one of those?

I also get lots of squealing when on full lock. Does that confirm a problem with my pas belt?

the power steering is known to be noisy on full lock (all my mk3's have had this!) and a new belt is £3-4 and worth replacing every couple of years (it can be scary loosing p.a.s mid corner in the wet! )

Has anyone had any problems with the rack?

Tires became really towed out and nothing is bent like the steering arm or tie rod?

Also the steering seemed to get harder to turn.
