Why do people use spacers on their wheels? I know the rear wheels dont stick out as much as the front, so do people use them to even this out? Also im lowering mine (hopefully next week) and want the back to look a bit more beefy, would spacers do the trick? Thanks for any answers and sorry if its a stupid question or this looks weird (im on the blackberry)

Gives it a better stance.
Also on some coilover kits the rear tyre can rub on the adjustor rings. That and sometimes if your have used a wheel with incorrect spacing (ET number) it can rub, spacers will sort that one out usually.

Great cheers fella, may purchase a set then, thanks for the reply :)

Remember to get hubcentric spacers and correct bolts for the spacers.
-
Halfords!?

how low are you running? I used spacers 10mm each side and when running at -40 on 205's they rubbed with people in the back! and when I ran ultra low I had to trim the inner arches abit and fit nice square sided 195's (falken's etc) and I had no clearance issues

I was down 50mm(ish), 205s and no spacers and I had some fat barstewards in the back still didn't rub.

Please don't universal ones are crap.

Can vouch for this

I will tell you the main issue.... the mk3 shell had a build/design issue where the rear axle is not central! some only have a few extra mm on one side and some have more (causing clearance issues on the 1 side!)

Thats shocking! But would't that cause it to crab?

Not really have seen mk2's the same.

I've never heard of them crabbing.... but I know a northern dealer group fitted spacers to one side on some when new to even them out!
-
lol, will explain mine then....
mine rubbed really badly on the n/s before i chopped the arches :D

apparently most cars are the same, guy who did my camber was telling me this is normal
-
right then all you spacer gurus,
what , how much and where from as the arse end of the Phatsat is going Phatter in the VERY near future
Thanks in advance

got my adapters/spacers from venom, 30mm, cost about £250, but mine are adapters not just spacers hence the price

Was gonna say thats a bit steep!! I was hoping they would be around 20 like the ones in halfords!! And to answer previous replies, im running 15 inch alloys with normal dunlop tyres (whatever the size standard tyres are!!) And dont know how low im going to go, what it low and flat so will adjust accordingly when i get my coilovers put on, i just didnt like the fact that my rear wheels arent as wide as my front ones so thought spacers would be the answer!

The reason why the halfords ones are cheap is the quality, much better to pay the extra due to the safety issues.

P.s so excited that work is finally underway on my golf after not having enough wonga to do so, you gotta love xmas money hahaha!!!
-
yeah listen to what wayne said, dont run cheepo versions...
another idea what i did was to roll and flair all the arches so i could slam it, i have no rubbing issues even with 4 people in the car and iv got 8" wide rims with 30mm adapters, mines is running low too
-
Ill probably wait to get the spacers, im not going overly low i dont think will see, but if i do need spacers ill run it att bit higher until i can afford decent ones.
