As detailed in my earlier thread, where my beloved got written off, I'm back on the market for a used Golf GTi, somewhere around £20-25K. But do I pick up a top spec Mk5 or a lower spec Mk6? In other words, is the Mk6 so much batter to drive and own that it's worth sacrificing things like satnav and parking sensors to get one?

Just found an excellent comparison from Spaced in this forum called
"Comparing a MKVI to a MKV"
Anything changed since then?

Lets keep it simple now , i have an ed30 58 plate and just orderd a mk6 reason being its a much better drive more refined, use's less fuel cheeper Tax bracket ( and best of all no rattles) Great car. Take one for a test drive?? I did and loved it!! Enjoy Steve

Used mk6 are way way overpriced and as soon as VW get there act together and sort out the production backlog they have the prices will tumble of used examples as the market gets flooded. Hell the amount of cancelled July/August/Septmeber orders out there dealers are going to have loads of near new cars for sale come March/April time.

Just too late for me! Maybe I should stick with a Mk5 for a while...

Yup, very tempting! I'd prefer DSG but I may contact you in the new year CocoPops.

All the above about fuel and tax gains goes out the window when your paying 10k+ to "Upgrade"
Mine doesnt have a single rattle in the car. Still as quiet as day 1 as it should be.
Me personally i think your mad!.The drive of the Mk6 is muted compared to the Ed30. less feedback from whats going on, which takes away the fun of what VW made with the ed30.
Save your money for the R
For the difference between the two cars, the mk6 is way over priced. 30k for a GTi is way too excessive.

I just put a deposit down on an '08 Mk5. But get this - the one I bought last March with all the bells and whistles was £19K, this replacement, with all the bells and whistles but slightly older and higher mileage is £21.5K! What's that all about??? The market has gone crazy!

The scrapage scheme has sent up used car price's! IMO would have gone for Mk6 paid a bit more for better car and more refinement. Hope you enjoy your mk5 brilliant car Steve30

I looked hard at Mk6 but I only have the insurance money from my crash plus a bit of savings to spend. I had to have RNS510, phone kit, DSG and parking sensors so Mk6 would have been >£26K.
