I have a golf R ordered and as far as I've heard a comission number...
No build date as far as I know...
Do you think I can change my order from a 3dr to a 5dr?
If I can will it possibly delay the build date?
Any advice appreciated, thankyou

You can normally change your order spec upto around 5 weeks before the build week date as from then its locked for production.
Changing from a 3 door to a 5dr on such a low volume model as the R maybe a little more complicated. Best to phone your dealer and ask.

Can I ask why?
You, like me have been saying that 3 doors looks better for months...
Why suddenly change to 5 doors?!

3 doors does look better! but I just found out my wife is pregnant..
I'm sure I'd be ok with 3drs but as I want to keep the car for 3yrs I think it would be easier with 5drs?
Any parents out there? Is a 3dr car easy to live with, with children??

Lol, congratulations  You have done the right thing: we have 7 kids and having experimented with 3-door cars in the past, I can promise you it's a nightmare. There's no better way to put your back out than load a baby/child into the back seat of a 3-door car
-
Thanks....
I just hope I'm able to change the order!

Congrats!
We have a now 10 month old girl and live with a 3 door Edition 30, just put an order in for another 3 dorr GTi mk6 too.
You can manage, and to me the 3dr looks so much better but we do have a Volvo Estate company car too, so it is a bit easier to live with when we need it to be.

Congratulations mate! A nice Christmas surprise for you!!!
I don't have any children myself, but I do have a couple of mates with kids. Both of them have a second car with 3 doors and a main car with 5 doors. They manage the 3 door car fine, but it is more hassle obviously.
If I were having a baby, I'd change mine to a 5 door too... and spec the extra rear airbags.
-
If your luckie and have a good dealer, explain the reason why you want to change to them and im sure they will try there best to sort it out for you.
-
Thanks for the advice
It's nice to hear other people have a 3dr + baby and cope well.
I think I will try to change to a 5dr but if I can't I'll carry on with the 3dr....
... I think?
-
I do not know if your wife is allowed to drive...but if she has to put the baby in the back with a 3 door....
I personally park my 5 door GTI every so often next to the 3 door GTI of my mate and besides the doors they are identical...I must say in real life the difference in my opinion is not so enormous....it certainly is a bummer if you or your wife will start to complain about the best car in the world...
-
I rung the dealer today .... I've changed it to a 5dr and added the rear airbag/seatbelt warning option
another £800 to the asking price.
I've even conviced myself I like the appearance of the 5dr (still think 3dr looks better though  )

^ Good to hear they helped you out.
Now all you need to do is change your Signature

done
what the dealer actually said was he couldn't see there being a problem but he could not confirm the changes till 4th Jan
as an aside- he said that VW have knocked back a few orders because people had chosen the parking sensors but not the sat nav
i.e he has had an order sent back to either have both sensors+ sat nav or neither!
this is only what he told me don't shoot the messenger :lipsrsealed:
-
Im guessing the factory must be shut till the 4th then.

It shut from week 59 till the New Year according to my dealer.

Anyone know if the 4th Jan is classed as start of week one? Or week 2?

So according to your dealer I'm either going to have to ditch my parking sensors, or upgrade to an RNS510 (despite me having one under my desk just now!)?? Bye Bye Parking Sensors it is then... but I'll wait until my dealer makes me choose and see if he'll do me a deal on an RNS!
Hopefully its just a mistake, as I can't see why the parking sensors wouldn't work with an RCD510 since they have on every other model.
Glad you got your 5 doors and airbags sorted... the next thing you need is leather - baby sick wipes off it much better than cloth

Me too... I await the call from my dealer and will be interested to hear what discount he'll give me because I'm forced to take the RNS510.

It was the head of the sales team who told me...BUT... I wouldn't take it as gospel truth as he could be misinterpriting some information he has received...

Its the length and width of the front doors in UK small parking spaces is the problem i find trying to get out yourself is a pain in the 3 door never mind getting to the back seat.
