yes, but it's quite expensive, around £200 to £300. I looked at it a few months ago. It is the VW MDI kit and if you have the 6 CD changer then you can do a straight swap.

Just be aware that you will only see the track number and be limited to 6 playlists on the standard head unit display.

I've got the ipod dock in the centre armrest. It was a straight swap for 6CD changer. Took all of 2 minutes to fit.

Works well, but it's too much money for what it is.

If you want to do it cheaper just buy the normal VW ipod kit which plugs into your headunit. These are about £80.

The best solution is to buy an RCD or RNS 510 and the MDI kit.

Im looking to plug my Ipod into my head unit too. I was just looking at fitting an AUX cable as im not fussed about all the track names and the like.

Can this be done to the bog standard head unit? (im pretty sure its the bog standard unit, does it say what the modle is anywhere?)

Yep, this is what I have. I got a Connects2 kit which plugs into the CD changer plug on the back of the standard headunit. I fed the aux connection through one of the blanks above the gear stick. Works brilliantly

Sounds good to me, got any links of where to buy the kit or any pics of the set up mate?

I'm almost positive this is the same kit that I got:

Dunno where the previous price of £115 is from through, I payed about £22 for it a year or so ago.
You can see one of the blanks here is gone, the aux connection is coming up through it. I have a blank with a hole drilled and a grommet for a neater set up but keep lost it while moving

Though usually I have the aux cable tucked into the hole and my mp3 player sitting over it. Nice and neat

Yeah your head unit looks the same except mine doesn’t have the chrome volume and tuning knobs.

Thanks for the link that’s great. Please tell me though the connection that fits to the head unit, (the CD changer socket) that isn’t just a 3.5mm headphone jack is it?

A small connector goes into the back of the headunit, the connector leads to a little box of electronics, out of which comes the aux connection which I fed out of the blank button. The little box is quite tidy and fits neatly behind everything.

Brilliant thanks, I just brought it.

Any links or pics of how to remove the head unit? I think you have to remove the top vent and then the surrounding centre console????

There are pics and info for removing the head unit in this post:

It's pretty easy but can be tough the first time.

FWIW, the guide I used was this one -

http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3121070 (http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3121070)

Did this the first morning I had my GTI

Quite easy to do too - just take your time, as the clips CAN break....
