But dreaming with the insurance, I am 34 and was paying £47 a month with Adrain Flux and all mods covered.

Whats wrong with the mpg? depends on how you drive!
-
34/36 mpg is easily acheivable as is 130 quid for insurance... just because you live in a sh!t area and yours is high doesnt mean other peoples are too.

Sorry but I think anyone 32 years old will stuggle to get insurance for a GTI for £130.
Mpg wise, maybe but 32 tops is around right for a 8V
-
I got 38mpg from Bristol to Taunton in the summer and my insurance was £850 at 18 with 1ncb.
-
?????
I thought I was going to see a chavved up car or something ... his auction is good and QUITE realistic.
For my dad to insure himself on my MK3 16v with not even 1 years no claims will cost around £250.
And mine reads 40mpg but realistically thats about 32-33mpg on the motorway ...
So ok, he might be lying a tiny bit, but theirs nothing over exaggerated about his ad ...
-
if it was a 3 door, had 16 valves and smaller wheels i'd have bought it!

I've had 40 mpg out of the gti after the lumpy cam was put on...

yup.
And before you say anything, my dash display is spot on. I've tested it with the brimming it test.

Looks a sweet car seen it up for sale for a while now,his insurance does seem cheap but he may live in a low risk area and he may have a high excess set to bring the price down he wouldnt have it on a classic insurance as mk3s are not old enough for this type of insurance.MPG wise I would say he is spot on my VR6 would do 22 mpg round town and my 16v about 28 mpg depending how they were driven of course so 35 for a 8v sounds right to me.Looks a sweet car any how I would have had a look if it was a 16v myself...

And what run was that? urban? extra urban? motorway? 40mph in 5th gear?
There is no way you would get that as an average. 40mpg+ as an average are diesel figures.
-
my 16v gives me 40mpg at 60mph in 5th
-
my 16v gives me 40mpg at 60mph in 5th
That's realistic, my old vr6 got mid to high 30's when driven for a good run at 50mph in 5th gear.

Fact is guys, Im 22 paying 280 quid to insure an 8v mk2, unlimited mileage and fully comp, so i can well believe that insurance figure.
As for the mpg, 36 is about bang on for a mk3 8v, unless you drive it like a prick all the time.

Is that fully comp on your own insurance?

It was on B roads and town. Didn't go above 2000rpm at any point and avoided stopping, I just coasted very slowly at all times to keep moving. On the motorway at around 70 in 5th I get about 34mpg or so.
-
on a run from my home to Manchester airport (50miles 80% motorway) I always got 40+mpg
-
£130 is belevable.
i can insure a mk3 GTI (8valve) for £240 fully comp in my own name, unlumited miles with 4yrs no clames. but don't worry i wont be doing that
-
im 33 and can insure a gti for 210 fully comp, and i live 10 miles away from the chap selling, 35-40 is about rite
-
I suppose £130 is realistic on the insurance.
It only costs me £200 to insure my A8, fully comp, i'm 36 with full no claims :smug:
