Title: Emissions workshop warning - cheap fuel?
Post by: 2007GTI on 24 December 2009, 17:24
Hi guys,

This is a Mk4 question, but I know a lot of you had Mk4's so you might be able to help.

My mate's 1.6 petrol Mk4 starting coming up with "Emissions workshop" intermittently, I told him to get it checked out and he took it to the non main dealer he brought it from and they admitted it was likely a sensor and fobbed him off saying its probably because he is using cheap fuel from Morrisons and Tesco (not 99 ron, just normal unleaded).

Has anyone heard of this, or is it bullsh!t?

cheers.

Sounds distinctly like bull to me.

I had a MkIV 1.6 SE, never put anything other than ordinary Shell / Esso / Tesco fuel in it, worked a treat. Mind you, I did sell it when it was six years old so I suppoer there's every chance that after say 10 years there could be issues.

Wouldn't be happy with their reasoning tbh.
