Hello all ye dub folk
Im the proud owner of a '95 1.4 cl :)
When its idling i can hear a sort of rattling/clunking noise, when I dip the clutch fully it continues for a sec then goes away. Bring clutch back up and its rattling again.
Also the other day i went to change gear (had driven about 20 miles that day already with no trouble) and it crunched into neutral and wouldnt go into any gear at all. Sat at traffic lights furiously trying to get into 1st or 2nd, eventually got into 1st by gently revving. Got to 4th and got her home okay. It was as if the clutch just wasnt doing anything. Went out the next day and it was back to normal, in and out of all gears as smooth as you like  And no bother since, been about a week.
So has anyone had a similar problem to mine with the rattling noise? Or anyone had a random day where their golf just didnt feel like changing gear?
Any help much appreciated!

Sounds like the clutch bearing. Had the same problem with my 1.4
The new owner never changed it and eventually had to replace the gearbox haha

Excellent, thanks for the quick replies guys. Is it difficult to change? Am having a search for a guide at the min.

Gearbox out job on a 1.4, may as well put a new clutch in it.

I had one go on my saxo vts. snapped the clutch plate and all sorts. I would get it straight in a garage. But then saying that I knew someone that had a 106 and it made a nosie for well over a year lol
And as said might as well do the clutch while it's out.
