Title: Should I be worried?
Post by: Hoppum on 21 December 2009, 20:36
Just drove home and had a spin on a mini roundabout. Basically as I was coming off the roundabout my back end just kept going and my passenger rear wheel hit the kerb square on, as shown in my fantastic illustration.

The wheel took the full force of the hit although it wasn't exactly at speed, but it was quite a bump when it hit. A quick visual inspection when I got home discovered no noticeable damage apart a 'nice' 2 inch graze in an otherwise perfect set of alloys, luckily it wasn't turning at the time.

Is there any further damage I could have done and if so what should I look out for? The car drove home perfectly the rest of the way though obviously this was crawling along.

Thanks

don't take the risk. Get the wheel off and have a good look for damage. Wheel bearing and bushes.

Could also have bent the beam.

:undecided: What's the likelihood of that?

Easy to do if you hit it hard enough.

I don't think I hit it to hard to be honest, I didn't bounce back off.

Get the tracking checked on the back.

My mate knackered the rear axle on his 205Gti doing something similar, made the back wheels sit like this \^|.
But then the Pug was french and axle was made from a stale baguette.

You'll probs be ok but better to get it checked as you wouldn't want it to do something unexpected  under braking because it was misaligned.

Get the tracking checked on the back.
yes tracking and bushing and bearings
and there is a peddle in the center of the floor board(its the brakes)
could use them in this case lol
just playing though hope all turns out right

If your vehicle skids, depress the clutch and turn the steering wheel into the direction of the skid. When the vehicle straightens steer along the road. Don't brake - it will just lock up your wheels and you'll skid further.
