Right people,
My my mates got a nice MK2 golf GTI and wants to change the lump. He is thinking of a VR6 lump but would like to know what other options are/whats needed.
He can get hold a VR6 lump and a 20V Turbo out of a MK4.
Advise please?
Cheers
Tucker

How much work would be needed??
-
i'd go 20v turbo any day, lighter, easier to tune not so costly if it f**ks up and newer so should last longer, most vr6's are getting a bit long in the tooth and that means expensive rebuilds if they get too bad.
in my opinion!
-
both fairly easy, but with the 20vt you really need the loom, clocks, keys, ignition, ecu etc etc etc both could be done in a weekend if you get it sorted right.
-
you don't really need the original clocks and key for a 20vt. I haven't :D
the ecu can be fiddled with to remove those bits of the imobiliser. either that or you can go down the standalone management route
-
yeah good point, or use one of those handy QPeng wiring looms to convert digifant to 20vt. thats the way i'd do it....and will do it when i get some cash!
-
i knew we would need the ecu, but is it just a case of taking the old engine out and bolting the new one in??
-
to be honest i was thinking of a VR swap later next year.
20vT sounds too pricey to fit but is more tunable?
whats the cheapest option? whats his budget?
-
How much do you think it would cost to fit any of the two??, he can get an engine thats not a prob
-
Not to sure on what engine is best blue ???
I would like to find out all the ins and outs for him.
More advice needed or any links on it ;)
Cheers
