Title: MFSW question!
Post by: HasH on 20 December 2009, 16:41
hello, i have just won a mfsw on ebay from cocopops, a member on here. i have just been having a read up and it turns out i have the wrong control module, i have 1K0 953 549 AF which isnt compatible! and i also read that the only functions available for the stereo are volume and mute if you only have a mid-line display, which i do!

well its a good job i only wanted the steering wheel for the look and shape of it, not for the functions lol.

anyway, my question, seeing as im not bothered about the controls, would it be possible for me to pop out the buttons on the mfsw and put in the blank caps from my original wheel? and would i need the new airbag harness or would i simply be able to connect the airbag as i would in the original wheel being as i wont have the buttons in it?

The plastic caps "should" pop off yours, don't quote me on that tho!

the harness is only needed if you use the buttons.

Basically, the cable from the airbag plugs into the central boss and the mfsw buttons plug into the middle of those two, so hence harness needed.

Yeah, the buttons are held in by a little screw that's visable when the air bag is removed. Take the screw out and the switch assembly can be withdrawn and the blank version replaced and then re-atached with the same screw.

Five minute job.

hello again, i fitted the wheel this morning, and just for future reference for everyone...the blanks from a standard wheel WILL NOT fit a steering wheel with buttons. so it looks like im going to have too buy the new control unit, i cant have buttons that dont do anything
