On vehicles with the manual air conditioning controls there is one small bulb that illuminates all three dials. The bulb is located behind the centre control knob.
The bulb no. is 286 and its 12v 1.2w, £1.99 from halfords or 45p with a trade card
Turn the knob to the upright position and pull it to remove the centre knob, cover the pliers with some cloth to protect the switch

Remove the bulb using either a pair of needle nose pliers with something like a rubber band round the ends to provide grip on the bulb or a thin piece of tubing pushed over the bulb.

Hi Mate, Cheers for the post, mine went a long time ago and thought I would have to remove all sorts to get to it. Will get it done this weekend J
-
Thanks for this post. Going to check mine and replace it tomorrow :)
-
No dis-respect to guide above mate, but get yourself a carton of Ribena and look at the job in hand. When drunk it, use straw to push on and remove then replace bulb.
That's today's top-tip...
-
I'm confused by that tip but guess it will make sense when I come to change the bulb
-
Believe me my good man, all will deffo become clear... :smug:
-
Got the bulb out earlier, completely forgot about the straw tip! Certainly see what you mean though :)
-
Ok I replaced the bulb but after a few mins it went off again. Is there anything else that could be wrong?
-
Is it deffo pushed right into holder daveski??? Has it gone off completely or just dimmer, as replacement bulb isn't as bright as original..
-
Its gone off completely. I'll have another go at pushing it into the holder later, hopefully that will fix it as I was just getting used to seeing the heater controls illuminated!

if anyone struggles to remove the old bulb, use some vacuum piping and slide it over the bulb, should be tight enough to pull it out. read it somewhere earlier, and it worked
