Title: RCD510 & iPod - Track Stuttering?
Post by: spenny_b on 20 December 2009, 02:00
Evening folks,

So, 2 weeks into GTD ownership, overall very happy.

One problem thats annoying the hell out of me at the moment is with the iPod plugged in via the MDI cable. At the beginning of every track, approx 1sec into it, I get what's probably best described as a stutter/drop-out, only for a split second, then the track continues perfectly - no further stuttering until the beginning of the next track.

Doesn't seem to make any difference whether the iPod is playing in random mode or continuous tracks of a selected album.

My import settings for iTunes (used for my whole collection) are:

256kbps
44.1 khz
AAC encoding (not Variable Bit Rate)

...and the iPod being used is a Classic (5th gen, iirc...first gen with colour LCD). No problem exhibited when listening with headphones.

Anyone having similar probs? Have done a search, but not bringing up anything.

Cheers
Spencer.

Have a read of this: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=131370.0

Don't think it comes to any conclusions as to why it happens, but I think it shows others are having the same problem.

I'm now using a Sony Walkman which is totally fine - no problems.

It is a problem with the 310 and 510 stereos interfacing with certain ipods.
VW dealers don't seem too interested to investigate.

As mudweasel has pointed out, the other thread doesn't really come to a conclusion.
Although I don't find it as bad or as obvious on my kids ipod Nano's but then again they have the problem of not always change the track name on the display.

I've found it is obviously more noticeable with tracks that start loud.
I've also found several tracks now that don't mute, that start loud even although they have been ripped in the same settings as the others.
Interestingly, with tracks that I know that definitely mute, if I press repeat, they won't mute then!!!!!!

Its annoying to the point that I've started to use my SD card instead and just put up with the delay before it boots although I do love the way you can select tracks on the ipod.

Thanks for the replies chaps. I'll take a read of the other thread later.

Looks like a couple of options; if it is iPod model specific, then I also have a 16GB iPod Touch which is about to make way for an iPhone (assuming Vodafone pull their collective fingers out and finalise T&C's with Apple) - I'll try that and go back to hooking up the "Classic" to the Becker stereo in the other car.

I'll also meddle about with a USB Drive as well (and poss a spare SD card thats kicking about). So long as the same search functionality is available from the headunit, I don't care what the source medium is.

Cheers,
S

It still happens with my itouch  I think it is more of a muting / drop out rather than stuttering.
I've not found the same versatility of being able to search on an SD card or USB drive the same way as the ipod ie by artist, album, song, genre, most played, recently added etc.
