Just some advice needed please guys.
2.0l 8v APK engine I have that seems to use a fair bit of oil.
Did I read somehere that its quite common for this engine to use more oil than others and is there a known problem on why it does?
I had a quick look today underneath and cant find any sinister leaks
Cheers
Pete

Yes the 2.0 8v engine is well known to use ALOT of oil.

Cheers Adam
Any ideas why -is it a fixable problem or just live with it?

I think its just the way they are made. I don't know how much oil is normal but I do know they use a fair bit. Any blue smoke out the exhaust?
-
Appreciate the peace of mind-no blue smoke issues all seems ok.
-
As said normal
-
what Oil are you using?
-
Its a local motor factors oil-one thats to VW spec according to my mechanic.
Thinks is called Comma or something?

ah righto found with mine if i used fully synthetic it used loads, put 10 40 in it would hardly use any

Why would the 2.0L engine use more oil than any other engine?
I've had 2 PD diesel engines, both very low miles, one used loads of oil, my current one doesn't use a drop.

dont know why but the 2.0 in the mk 4/ bora just uses a lot it's quite common

Is it not a very similiar engine to the mk3 gti 8v?

not sure but the mk3 dont use oil like these

I thought the engines were the same, well block and head, same capacity and power.
Very strange one.

what oil was/are you using in the PD engines, as Ive found a couple brands which use 1/2 litre between services and then VW oil doesn't use anything :undecided:

Can't answer that one. I think its castrol?
Both cars were/are serviced by VW main dealer, a 105bhp Touran and a 115bhp Sharan.
The oil light on the touran used to come on between services, the Sharan doesn't use a drop between.
In my opinion, i think its extremely unlikely that any vw engine has an oil consumption problem.
Probably down to the oil used, or the individual engine.
Some use oil, some don't.

The 105 is a non-PD engine and the 115 is a PD engine. PD is more efficient.
Also the mk4 is a different head, not too sure about the bottom. I believe the 2.0 8v mk4 is a crossflow head.

The 105bhp engine in my Touran was definately a PD engine
There is a choice of PD and non PD available.

Ohh, I didn't know that :)

You can tell the difference when driving one, i'm sure PD engines have more torque
