When I bought my GTI in February the alloys were kerbed to f*ck and I'm only now decided I'm sticking with the 17"s, but can't decide on one of three finishes for a refurb;
a) Standard,
b) Gloss Black,
c) Anthracite.
Ideas? Suggestions? Liking gloss black, myself... :undecided:
-
It would be standard for me or the slightley darker edition 30 colour.
-
100% black with the 17s, when painted black it makes the wheel seem bigger as it blends in with the tyre sidewall. Dont go for gloss though they are feckin impossible to keep clean and when they are clean there is too much of a differance in colour between the matt finsh of tyre and the gloss finish off the wheels, the best compromise is a mixture of gloss and matt, which quite a few finishers will offer the one that looks the best is the 30% gloss black, same colour as some oem lambo wheels and looks the absolute tittys !, ive had it on one of my previous cars (silver mk4 gti) and loved them, its just a pitty that i have a black car now or i would go for it again
-
You mean satin black ?
Had similar thoughts myself, but not keen on the 17's although may lower it on them first to see if that helps me change my mind.
Black wheels on silver always looks good imo

There are differant grades of satin black at my local refurb company 30, 50, and 70%, 30% is best IMO
-
I'd go with Gloss black. I had a flat/satin black with my black edition CH's and they were a pig to keep clean

Thanks, boys!
Beginning to think about Athracite over the black.... No, gloss black!
-
Our survey said:-
c) Anthracite
 I prefer it to black...
-
Thanks, TagnuT and other guys for the input.
Let some more uuhhmming and ahhhing commence!

Has anyone tried gold wheels like an Evo? Might look quite good.

That did cross my mind, but not on a silver golf. Maybe it would look good on a blue or black car?
FCUK it, gloss black it is!

 Thanks, phil!

Black makes the tyres look grey, unless you have a silver or red rim like Phil has (or love applying tyre gel). So for dark wheels I think anthracite is better. But I'd paint them silver and do the recesses in black or anthracite like the 18's

Black Chrome for me eventually!!
Think I need to update my profile!!!

Aerocoat did these. close to where i live so didnt worry about a carrier wrecking them.
looking around £240 for the set & this includes sorting any kurb scuffs etc.
Bargain i thought as vw wanted £380 for just one replacement wheel!
