Title: Damn you fault codes!
Post by: Mk1Macca on 18 December 2009, 10:28
Ok, so a quick scan has thrown up the following...

17704 - Cooling system malfunction (which I would guess is the thermostat that needs changing)
17705 - Connection turbocharger - throttle valve pressure hose (is this as obvious as it sounds? Where is this hose located? would this explain my massive drop in power?)
17947 -  Clutch Vacuum Vent Valve Switch Incorrect signal (this one i have no idea! HELP!)

Anyhow, the power only dropped last night, and i've only just scanned for codes. No time to check under the bonnet this morning, due to the snow, so will go and have a look a bit later on for anything obvious, but can anyone give me any clues as to what's going on?

thanks!

Ruh roh.. Why do you say it like that?! That linked thread made it seem like it wasn't too bad?

Anyone have any thoughts on the last code??

17705 code is notorious for being hard to pin down....  Try the free/cheap fixes first then get your wallet out.

Hmmm... well the DV is a brand spanking new 007p fitted about a month a go, so I hope it isn't that.

Will try and check all the pipes later. Stupid question time, but what's the best way to check? feel round all the joints? Will there be any pressure though on idle?

Anyone got any ideas on the last code?

I wish there were more mk 4 owners near me. Damn you Peterborough!  :undecided:

1st code, fix the thermostat as you say

The last 2 could be related. The third codes relates to your clutch pedal switch which has a certain amount of control over the throttle, and I've seen dodgy throttle bodies pull up 17705 before. A lot of people seem to be having problems with clutch switches lately, dunno why. You can test with a multimeter but easier if you have vagcom. Go to block 066 and in the second field a 1 should change to 0 when you push the clutch down. If you find that faulty, replace the clutch switch. If you still get the 17705 code after that then it's time to find a boost leak. (or blag forge hoses/intercooler and we'll sort it somehow  )

So I think what you're saying here is, come over to hinckley just after Christmas with a boot load of biscuits and we'll see what can be done?

Sounds like a great plan! When are you all back from Christmas hols?
