Title: First Timer with heating issues
Post by: widget on 17 December 2009, 16:06
Hi
I am new here and would like to say hi to all also see if anyone out there can help.
I have just bought a MKIII GTi 2l 16v on a P plate 1996, the previous lady that owned it had wired an amp cable from the head unit to the battery, and removed it at a later date, i believe she drilled a hole for the cable to go through, i was then told about the heating sometimes not working and when she took it through the car wash it leaked water where the hole was drilled when i picked it up it was working fine on all fan settings and it was very warm, then the next day it stopped working i took it to be hand washed and when it was done the heating worked fine but the next day it did not work does this sound like a grounding problem? and where do i start to look.

Please help its freezing

John

hey, welcome to the forum.

try doing a search/posting this question in the mk3 section, they might be able to help. my mk3 heater has been a bit dodgy lately, not sure if it's the same problem but mine doesn't work on setting 1 and sometimes doesn't work at all. i have got a new resistor pack for a few quid off ebay (new part though) as these can sometimes be a problem.

Is it the motors that stop blowing? Or is the problem more the temperature of the air coming out the vents

when the fan is not working you can still feel some heat coming out of the vents

would you believe it went out to clear the snow off and when i finally got in the car turned on the ignition the fan and heating was working, so i left it running for about 15 minutes andit got lovely and hot inside, i then turned the car off went in and had a brew then came out to go to the shops guess what heating not working again nothing talk about annoying
