Ive got a service due on my GTi 1.8T V-reg coming up in January, and just wondering if anyone has any idea how much it usually costs and what exactly will need doing?
I bought the car a few months ago and is now on about 80800 miles (i usually only do short journeys, about 50 miles a week). It has a full service history stamped by VW Dealers, and at the last service carried out only an inspection was done. So I am assuming I will have to do oil and brake fluid change, but not really sure what else it would entail. Ive replaced the cambelt and waterpump a few weeks ago.
Also, can an independant VW Specialist stamp the service schedule or is it best to keep using VW dealers, would that affect resale value on a car thats 9 years old? I dont intend on selling it anytime soon, but who knows i might have to and I dont want to kick myself because I wanted to save a few quid. But then again, i dont want to pay a bomb if it doesnt make much of a difference either.

ps. If it is best to keep the full service history, can anyone recommend a good dealer in the south east london area?

mine had the 80k service plus cambelt change couple of months back, cost pence shy of £500 at vw mai stealer, but the service itself was £277 + vat rest was belt change.

I do my services myself it's a lot cheaper and i keep all the receipts and staple them together and write the mileage on it

+1. But would this put you off buying a car? I do all the work myself and keep the receipts. Oil change today :)

Not really to be honest. Especially as it's aa 10 year old car...

if a little bit capable then service items are easy to replace and as said buy the bits do it yourself and keep the receipts i have never had a problem when selling a car like this but i am a mechanic by trade to be honest it is worth finding a good local garage by word of mouth or a good independant specialist and get some prices off them main dealers can be stupid money per hour on there labour rates and don't always give better service,if there is any thing you are unsuure off just ask on hear there are plenty of talented and knowledgeable people who are willing to help

Andybod, I couldnt possibly do a service myself, my knowledge of cars can be written on a stamp. I just wanted to know how much I was looking at paying, and what kind of work would likely have to be done. But mostly im unsure whether to just stump up and pay a dealer to do it or take it to a specialist ive used before. Im quite happy for the specialist to do it, he's charges seem fair compared to other quotes ive had for work he's done and i have no complaints. My only worry is not having that "all-important stamp". I dont know if id be shooting myself in the foot by not keeping up with the full service history, if i ever decided to sell.
Ive got my MOT in January as well, beans and toast all month for me then :sick:
