Title: Judder
Post by: Ant1981 on 14 December 2009, 19:21
If I put my foot down whilst releasing the clutch for a quick pull away, what would the juddering be that I can feel (usually once the clutch is fully released whilst giving it full throttle) through the steering wheel also? As it judders, it makes quite a banging sound too.

Flywheel :undecided: Engine mounts  :undecided:

Don't think it's the engine mounts, as that would knock as the engine tries to move, rather than judder and would happen most of the time, such as hill starts.

When I first got my 1.8t I had a bit of judder like that (when pulling away) it was sorted when the MAF was changed and throttle body cleaned.  But as said before, could also be engine mounts  :undecided:

how bad is the banging? you sure its not wheel hop?

Again, doubt it's engine mounts due to how it happens. Could be wheel hop actually, as when it's wet, I just screetch the tyres. Goes to show how sh!t these cars are if it's wheel hop. It should just burn the tyres like any decent car would.

wheel hop is usually due to too much flex in the rear gearbox (dogbone) mount bushes

i fitted a powerflex poly bush when mine went, but good luck finding one at the moment.. the factory went up in flames a while back. It's almost up and running again but most places have sold all the remaining stock! R32 bushes can be used as an upgrade if you want a quick fix. Standard OEM replacement will probably do, but you always have to ask yourself.. if its broken, how can i improve it?

I asked this ages ago, still have it myself on my 1.8T, when letting the clutch pedal up on first gear pull away it judders like hell, not even aggresive pull aways either. Only does it in first, have to up the revs to counter it. I was thinking clutch/flywheel related, no other banging so def not the engine mounts.

out of interest, what are the mileages of the cars surrently suffering from this and what non service parts have they had replaced, i.e clutches, engine mounts etc.....?

Mine's only when I really go for it.

I had/have similar clutch bite problems;

Clutch judder in 1st pulling away inc slight gearstick wobble
"Noise" through clutch pedal if I dip it slightly in motion
Having to use more throttle to pull away
Gets alot worse stuck in traffic on+off clutch

>New flywheel and clutch didn't cure it
>Engine mounts didn't do it

Now looking at $$$ fitting a g.box and another clutch in the new year  :embarassed:  If you work it out before me please let me know!

My mileage was on 87k when i bought it and has done it from then so god knows how long ago it started, looking through the service history i have (but there is a huge gap from feb 05 till i got it) there have been no non service parts go into her. I dont know the average life of a clutch/flywhel in these motors.

If its the DM gone then it will be time for that g60/vr6 upgrade
