Title: Buttons next to the ashtray
Post by: p3eps on 14 December 2009, 09:13
A bit of a random one this...

On a MK5 Golf, there were only 4 buttons (or fake buttons!) next to the ashtray.
On the MK6, there are 5.

On my MK5 I had 2 out of the 4 empty - as I only had a flat tyre indicator and ESP.

On the MK6 I'm going to have ACC, ESP, Flat Tyre, Parking Sensors (does it go there?!).

What options would you need to take to actually fill all 5 buttons?!

I still have my MK5 ashtray here as it has my Micro Road Pilot fitted into it.  I might swap them over (if the MK5 one fits the MK6?)
I'm just a bit worried that the button size will have changed if they've changed from 4 - 5... and whether I may actually need 5 buttons!

ESP, ACC and Parking sensors, will go there.
They have moved the Flat Tyre button into the glovebox for some reason.

So what would fill up the other 2 buttons?

It is really sad that I know this :nerd:. From left to right the buttons are ESP, ACC, ParkPilot, parking sensors and what was previously the tyre pressure monitor but is now reserved for this:

The Bluemotion auto start-stop override.

Cool... thanks!
Hmmm... that means I'm going to have 2 empty slots since we can't get parkpilot on the R over here.
I wonder if my 4 slot MK5 one will fit - or are the buttons a different size?

Indeed, but it makes me feel a bit better knowing that there are even nerdier car nuts out there than me

Why are you bothered over a few empty buttons? :nerd:

I'm not really bothered...
I still have my MK5 ashtray assembly which has my Micro Road Pilot fitted inside it and ideally I'd like to fit it straight into my MK6 - rather than hacking bits out of the MK6 ashtray.  I think the assembly is the same size - but if the buttons are different sizes, then it likely won't fit.

There's nothing worse than having to explain to your mates why the Golf you payed £35,000 for still has blank switches...?

Exactly. Blanked out switches make you look a cheap skate. I want my bank of switches to look like this

^^^^ both of those should be factory options IMO

To reduce my switch blank count, I'm thinking of relocating the tyre pressure monitor switch back to the centre console when I get my car. For the remaining switch I thought I might try this out:

Of course I'll have to get an electric garage door first

There is that too!  Even if I picked EVERY option and ended up with a £41k car - it would still have blank switches!!
Does Hill Hold have a switch?!

The garage door mod looks great (if you have an remote door!) - the only thing being it'd be a p1sser to change the battery in the middle of the night when you come home and the door won't open!!  That guide in the second link is great - step by step to the extreme.

I must be slow today, as its taken me about 10 minutes to actually figure out what Kev is on about.  :nerd:

I was half expecting you to post something like
"yeah - I'm at least 100" in the 'Miles from a tank' thread too!
