......I'm looking at the possibility of fitting a small camera into the passenger side wing mirror housing on my left hand drive car, and connecting it to an in-car monitor.
This will allow overtaking manouveres without full commitment before knowing whats heading towards you.
This will be very similar to the reversing camera set up I'm also installing in my scoob.
My question to you all is, would any of you be interested in a group buy on the necessary equipment? I'm guestimating it will be around ?150-ish. If you let me know if you're interested, I'll pm you with the deals that I find.

Sounds interesting, does this include you fitting it? ;D
Putting the screen somewhere that is easily visible but can also be hidden from theft might be tricky
-
If i get the g60 i definately will, dont want to be stuck behind a nova/corsa/clio when hammering it around ?;D

Some of the screens I have seen have quick release brackets, allowing you to lock it away in the glovebox/take it with you when you park up.
I'll sort out the fitting for you mate ;)

hmmm, does it have playback / record? could be useful for recording the drives home from Newark meets ;)

Oh Fielder, how terribly dull ;) :D :D

wouldn't looking at the screen be a bit dangerous at speed?
I have a spare mk2 wing mirror for both sides if anyone needs one ;D
-
I'm not going to be staring at it for miles on end!! You just use it to take a peek if anything is coming on the other side of the road if you're sat behind a lorry etc .
I don't see why that would be any more dangerous than looking in your rearview/wing mirrors? ???

the next big thing on the USDM (US domestic Market) are gonna be Mirror pods, Basically two small pods where your wing mirrors should be, with a camera in each one, Then a screen within the car shows what the cameras see. Should be cool, But spending ?300 for two camers and a screen is a lot more than ?40 for M3 mirrors :o

Owned a left hand drive car for my first two years here. never noticed it being to hard to overtake with. Just leaned over to the right a bit and stayed further off of the car in front then down a gear and shoot by. lol.

pinhole cameras are on ebay for anything between 99p and ?40.
the wireless one attached to the front number plate of my Rover for S2N was wireless and could of been better, but then it only cost 99p. i would get a wire version for what you want to do.
if you buy a full colour sunvisor with lcd inside, that shouldnt cost you much more than 70-100 quid. again, buy off ebay from one of the Hong Kong dealers to keep the cost down.
Tin
PS nearly went to bump someone deliberatly on S2N - then i remembered the camera - sccrreeech.....

would have been an impressive video though. lol

Just floor it and go...
U need a rear camera for parking?? U a woman :P :D

my m8 works for a big security firm I could ask him
for prices and see what equipment he has because they get loads
of good second hand gear and he will do a good discount probs
