Title: Marmite Wheels
Post by: Exonian on 13 December 2009, 16:57
Some of you will love 'em, some of you will hate 'em.

Ladies and Gentlemen let me introduce my new winter wheels:

A set of genuine Black Detroits, so OEM enough to please the GTI purists, different enough to please people who don't want their car looking standard (ie. me) but standard enough to not be too obvious, oh, and they're black enough to not please anyone who doesn't like black wheels.
Both my cars now have my trademark black wheels.

Please excuse the poor photo location, but really it was far too cold to drive somewhere photogenic and roll about in a ditch trying to be arty.........

Marmite is rank...
Black on silver looks good!!

Not really a monza fan - but they do look better in black.
Suits the car well.

If these are your winter wheels - what are your regular ones?!

I like CH's - but I think the winter wheels actually suit the car better...

Not that my opinion is biased by the fact I've ordered a silver car with black wheels

I only bought the winter wheels as I thought the BBSs didn't look quite right on the mk6 from some angles. They looked perfect on my mk5 by for some reason don't quite cut the mustard on the mk6.
I'll see how the Detroits grow on me as they may become my all year wheels.

Don't worry Chuff I was only kidding

I dont like marmite... but i do like the winter upgrade   Nearly bought an ed30 in silver with the black detroits a couple of years ago, sure i've got a pic somewhere.

As you said mate, the BBS looks perfect on the Mk5. I also feel there's something missing when they're on the Mk6, but it is a nice wheel.

Cheers for all the positive comments fellas. To be honest I was expecting a lot more negative comments, though I'm sure they'll come over the next few days.

Phil Mcavity - I think you may have a slight bias there!

I don't like black wheels on the whole, because they look aggressive and, well, just plain dirty... but they look ok on reflex silver for some reason.

I'll just say black wouldn't be my first choice :lipsrsealed: I think the BBS need to be 19" to look best on the Mk6. Its probably just be an optical illusion, but the tyres look lower profile on your black Monzas. Are they 225/40's?

You're not the first person to comment on the tyres. It is an optical illusion as they are identical in size. It's probably the contrast of the polished rim lip against all the black.
