Hello every 1, went for a blast today in the girlfriends car and went to overtake some one and the throttle seem to stick open managed to slow it down and stop, there was loads of smoke coming out the back which smellls like oil been burnt. Had problemslike this on a landrover which was turbo related so was wondering if this was the same?
Thanks for any help in advice.

Hi
Did you start it after the stop ?
If yes, was the engine revving high ?
-
Hi starts up fine ticks over but smoking out the back all the time there is no mix of oil and waterand temp didnt go any higher than normal.
-
The TDi doesn't have a throttle. Sounds like your turbo was running and spinning up on its own oil.
My bets are on the oil seals on the turbo have had it. Or bearing failure. New turbo time.
-
sounds like oil is getting in the cylinders in a big way. it could well be the turbo. have you checked the oil level ?. this can also happen if the oil level is too high. I would take an intake pipe off and see how much oil is in there, (pref a lower one). It is normal for a small amount of oil to be in the intake but if a lot comes out I would be looking at the turbo.

just done full service on it oil levels were fine but after this the oil was low. thought turbo seals as this is what happened on my landrover. its her car never had a vw before. its got 84k on clock with only 1 old owner and FSH.
Any ideas on prices? recon or can you get them resealed?
Thanks for the help

Exchange at VW costs £750, new one is £1100 a refurb on yours would cost around £500

Rare for the seals to go with 84k on the clock but possible. The turbo shaft bearings could have gone as well.
If there is oil in the intake pipes its the turbo.
If there isn't then its coming from the engine somewhere.
-
what colour smoke?? If its white; its turbo bye bye time
I've heard of turbo's going a lot sooner than 84K :undecided:

If its blue its bye bye engine or turbo.

The smoke was white def oil been burnt.
Been looking all over internet some sites say the pipes blow of but dont think that would make smoke come through the xzorst???
Will be stipping it 2morois there anysigns to look for before hand.
no chance of any sensors failin?
-
black smoke is a pipe popping off
white smoke is not good  and unlikely a sensor has failed either as it would have thrown the car into limp mode to save itself

thats what i was thinking just was after some reassureance realy as its the most electronicly minded car we whave bought.
