ok i know its a 1.8T but surly 200odd miles to a tank of fuel isnt normal???
where do i start? im pretty handy with tools so il give anything a go. its had a spec 1 remap by R-Tech and pipercross panel filter but the rest is standard.
i do normal running around local area only so only short trips.
any ideas?

I get 220 miles to a tank in mine so your not far off. Short runs really kill the MPG
-
should be closer to 300 really, unless you drive it very hard all the time
-
I do very short runs though mate (not much room to do much else over here lol)
It can do 330 to a tank when I take a trip over the water though

i wasn't talking to you, i know you drive it hard mr. clutch killer!

over a full tank what average mpg are you getting ..........?
-
haha!
yeah same here, theres nowhere to get those revs going, its all 30 zones and heavy traffic.
not sure how to work out mpg tbh, prob dumb sounding. ive just filled up again and reset my trip meter to double check.
-
When was it last serviced?
-
If your doing town driving then surly you would better off with a tdi
-
200 does seem very low. I get about 300 from a fall tank to just hiting the red ( no light on thow) and i thort that was bad.
-
that works out at around 17 mpg. When I've done the school run in mine which is about 1 mile, plus idling for a few minutes the journey average is only 8mpg, so if you're doing that sort of thing then its probably about right.

not really
Diesels take much longer to warm up than a petrol car thus if you're tootling around town there's not as big a gap between diesel and petrol in terms of fuel economy compared to doing a longish journey

nah he would be better off with a 1.4 petrol for short journeys like that although it would be even better in a polo or similar
-
or for short journeys you could walk

he is a SHE   hehe
she had a major service and cambelt done 3k ago. i do 40 mins town driving from cold each morning then same in the evening. weekends proberbly local tootling.
winter i dont tend to do much but in the summer i like going everywhere! haha. im addicted to turbo's so cant get a car without one  lol
-
awaits the mass of replys now you've come out as a SHE

I have noticed a massive difference between the Golf and Passat Tdi with regards to fuel consumption, the Golf eats it.......my TD5 Discovery is better and I thought that was heavy...
Not sure what it will do on a tank I top it up when it gets to just over half a tank, I will leave it this week and check..... funny thing is I only decided to keep this for a second car for myself and use it for a bit of fun at the weekends, I haven't been near the Discovery since I got this.......

I get 600++ miles from a tank this week I done 530 miles to £49 = 54 mpg average
-
As said should be at least 300 miles to a tank TBH.
-

-

Their tyres must wear faster than their fuel tank runs low

I have an mapped AGU.
In the summer i was getting at least 290 to a tank before i hit red now its much colder im getting 230 to 250 on short journeys and not a too heavy right foot.
I took it to my mate s garage and he put it on the emmissions tester.
It showed up it was over fueling when cold but once warm it wasn't.
He said as its much colder now the car is gunna take longer to warm up thus use more fuel and with the wrong heat range plugs in making it even worse.
His suggestion was to change the plugs to what vw speced as a first to do as it hasnt got any fault codes
im gunna live with it for a while as its too cold.
