Title: Paint Correction Vs Halfords
Post by: der_kaiser on 11 December 2009, 18:14
Ok so I almost know the answer for this one before I post it but I wants some opinions anyway. I´ve got a mark IV GTI it´s indigo blue and it´s got a few little scratches on it. They really aren´t that bad but when I've spent 3 hours cleaning it they are all I can see. Ive decided I need to get them sorted out. I'm not brave (or talented) enough to do it myself so it's gonna be a halfords job or a proper speacialist. I've been quoted a standard 595 for the pro correction guys which is pretty steep, but I may just do it. Alternatively Halfords claim to remove scratches for a lot less. So what do u guys think should I keep my pride and joy as far away from halfords as possible or do they offer a reasonable service for the money. My Golf is in your hands ...PS if there's anyone in the Aberdeen area that knows of any good correction places that would be helpful cheers.

I would be very carefull as to who you let loose on your car but who ever you decide to let do it I would try and find examples of work they have previously done for others.

I've seen some pictures on other forums of cars that's been done by this company seems pretty good to me.

I can't really comment on Halfords as I've never seen any work the have carried out, however would I trust them with my car.....No chance!
As your in Aberdeen, have you tried Polished Bliss? They are one of the best detailing centres in the UK. It may be worth calling in and seeing what they say.

Here are their details:

Polished Bliss Ltd
Unit 7 Craigearn Business Park
Morrison Way
Kintore
AB51 OTH

Alternatively, if you have the time, why not buy a machine polisher and learn how to use it. You will be surprised at the results you could achieve with a bit of practice.

They look amazing but i can't afford 1100 for a full correction. Do you know much about detail ecosse?

try

Bound to be some bods on there who have used detail ecosse.  As well as that there are a few guys on there who know what theyre doing but don't do it as a day job.  They might be able to do it for you for even less.

Cheers mate, looks pretty decent to me. It's a sh*t load of cash but then you get what you pay for. I've just spend 200 odd on getting the wheels refurbished so sorting the paint out seems the next logical step. If my girlfriend finds out I've spent 800+ on the car I'll be sleeping rough for the next few weeks !!! It'll be worth it tho

I agree it's a lot of money but you really do get what you pay for.

Let me know what you decide and if you can get before and after pictures posted that would be great to see.

For around £150, you could kit yourself out with a decent DA machine, pads and polishes, than do it yourself.

You would have to be a complete and utter numpty to do any damage with a DA. It might take a little bit longer to get the results that a pro would with a rotary, but if you take your time, and do a bit at a time, you'll have the satisfaction of knowing you did it yourself. You might even enjoy it.

There will be plenty of guides on forums etc to point you in the right direction. You really can't go wrong.

Any suggestions on what´s the best machine etc to go for, bearing in mind I´m a complete beginner.
