Here she is the mk4 Gti I bought for my wife to use for work last Sunday, unfortunately after driving it home I decided to keep it for myself, she’s now got a ford focus diesel to go to work in.........
It’s my 4th Gti but the first one for about 17 years.............
It’s a 2001 on a Y plate with 120,000 miles on the clock.........It had a full service and mot in August this year then parked up, before I picked it up on Sunday it had done just over 20 miles since the mot........
6000 miles ago it had an engine rebuild costing just under £1000 plus new turbo, starter motor, coil packs, titanium plugs, clutch and re-mapped to 200+bhp.
The plan is to keep it looking like a standard Golf Gti, I personally like the alloys that are on it so will not be changing them, the only thing I would like to do on the exterior is possibly add one of those small tail gate spoilers....
The interior is also in pretty good condition so not much to do other that give it a good clean, in time if one came up I could be very tempted with a black leather interior........

The engine looks and is standard apart from the re-map, would love to get some suggestions on what I could do with it..........

Here are the few minor body work issues that I need to get sorted in the new year........

That bit is for the front part or the undertray. Thats should just clip on but its not essential. Just keeps the engine that bit cleaner and helps air flow.
Love the fact you got it for the other hafe and kept it . Classic
Congratulations mate and welcome the the MK4 Golf club

Looks nice. Keep it subtle.
Plastic panel (in the boot) fits under engine to stop road guff and reduce noise coming up. Clips to back of bumper below radiators. Just needs a few screws to fit back on: N90775001

Ended up paying £1900..... I looked at some pretty terrible ones that were up for a lot more than I paid for this..

I would say so and not very well TBH
-

Yes, the previous owners wife scraped the gate reversing off the drive......its a little duller than the rest but I think with a bit of effort I can get it something like.......failing that when I have the knocks on the bumper done i`ll have it sprayed again...

Its a 2001 on a Y plate with 120,000 miles on the clock

hate to say it but that doesn't look like much of a bargain when you look at what needs doing in terms of bodywork
Yes this smacks of bias but for £300 more you could have had this

Unless 5 doors was a priority :undecided:

i guess but its a 2001 120k on the clock yes it needs wrk but all cars will below 2001 so for 1900 notes on a 2001 plate i think is cheap.

Dai's car has less miles, remap, Forge parts, leather interior (which the OP would like), lowered, wheels etc and is the same year
Anyhoo I guess it gives the OP a chance to put his own stamp on it

Having spent the last 2 weeks looking a quite at few Golfs I am more than happy at paying £1900 for this 2001 golf , its got 120,000 miles with FULL vw service history, engine rebuild 6000 miles ago done by vw, new turbo fitted, every mot certificate its ever had, every receipt for any work done on it even down to bulbs..........and its been remapped.......
Having seen some of the crap on offer I am happy to have a few hundred quids worth of body work done......... I would have paid the £2400 asking price for it, I think I only got it at the price because I stuck £20 notes under his nose and its so near Christmas......and made a big deal of the spray job on the rear pillar that isn't actually that bad when you see it in the flesh.....

Without wanting to sound or be rude the only thing I did like about it was the leather interior........I have to teenage children who use me like a taxi with their mates and the last thing I want to be doing is getting in and out of the car pulling the seat forward letting people in and out, I also dislike red cars with a passion and I don`t like tinted windows........so to be brutally honest I would not have bought it even if it had been £300 cheaper.....

Equally I had no knowledge of your dislike for red cars or the fact you needed 5 doors as I said previously
Should have bought a diesel though
Enjoy

I have had diesels for the last 10 years, you would not believe how nice it feels to drive a car with a petrol engine.........Its nearly caught me out twice at the pumps, I naturally go for the black one...
