when my insurance company wanted stupid money for my 1.8T i decided to shop around for a better quote.
I tried all the big firms on the net and then went through all the others in the back of magazines and yellow pages.
I called Greenlight who advertise in PVW and they gave me a quote of ?600 for my 99 1.8T.? That's having told them about the chip upgrade and bigger alloys.? Fully comp.? I'm 25 years old with three years NCD.?
I think that's a great deal and over ?100 cheaper than any of the others that i called (one wanted ?2000 :o)
Give them a try.

Just rang Green Light and they wont insure me because of my post code!! Didnt realise Liverpool was such a bad area! :(
-
have you got the number for green light?

just to add to this conversation....
i'm 25 7yrs no claims, have standard 1998 1.8T, took a quote from sainsbury's bank ?498, is same company as first alternative and was the best quote i got. thinking of few mods this year, i.e suspension/wheels/exhaust....do all insurance companies add on about the same premiums for such mods or does it vary a lot?? friend of mine paid extra ?40 for after-market wheels.......i just don't want to get stung !!
all advice appreciated !!

 The best I have found is Adrian Flux... Amazing Quotes!!!
I am 25, 4 yrs no claims, drive a MK2 16v, have 3 speeding convictions and they quoted
?335 fully comp!!!
If anyone knows cheaper I will be happy to hear it.

That's brilliant
When i called them they quoted me ?900 and i live in an area where there's no crime

I told them my car is parked in a private drive, that its in guildford and that is was a competitive situation... they then gave me that quote.
It also has a ?200 excess... Thats all the details I gave.
From my understanding the big difference is being
- 25
- a few years no claims
I dont know if being from this area mkaes a difference... I suppose they take it into account if the guy from Liverpool couldnt get a quote
-
I'm currently with Elephant for my standard Mk3 8v GTI, my premium is just over £450 fully comp with 4 years NCB, and NCB protection included (I quoted the car as not having an immobilizer, as I wasn't sure. The dealer I bought it from said it didn't have one, but Parkers Guide quotes all GTI's from '94 onwards as having one as standard :undecided:. Can anyone shed any light on this?).
I thought that was quite good as most of the others I tried were quoting £600 or more, or wouldn't quote at all without an immobilizer fitted.
T1 VDUB I have to agree, being over 25 with a few years NCB can make a big difference
The only thing I will say as a minus to Elephant is, that to get the premium at the price quoted you have to pay it all in one lump sum  otherwise they add about 20% to your premium for paying in installments.
Still, worth a try if you can pay it all in one go .

I rang green light for the Polo GT and they said they won't quote for it, as not big engine or heavly modified!!!
With Ad Flux at mo but about to run out, best price so far is £196 fully comp, age 28 4 years no claims and second driver with 6 points! Quite happy with that

It would appear that Greenlight are not being as good to everyone else as they were to me

That is a cracking quote T1 dub....I just phoned them and got quoted £315 fully comp. That is based on me being 27, 7 years no claims, including g/f (which normally knocks £40 off at least) and a decent postcode....but that is with a £300xs. When i asked if the xs could be reduced i was told they only do a standard price for hot hatches so couldnt change it (by the way its a mk3 8v, so they obviously dont know the performance of an 8v or dont class mk2 16vs as hot hatches
...and Greenlight wouldnt even quote me when they asked what my best quote was. So far best prices have been Adrian flux (but with 300xs), Elephant £331, Privlege £340 and Bell Direct £355. May go with elephant as only slightly dearer but a better xs....all quotes with ncb protection, legal cover, etc. (Egg, Direct Line, Tesco, Sainsbury, way off the mark)

Update...just got a quote direct from Admiral and even cheaper...£303 with £250 xs or £330 with £250xs, but a guaranteed car for a month if mine is nicked or written off   and guranteed ncb as opposed to just protected

Just so you all know...
If you are involved in a crash and it is not your fault then English Law states that you MUST be provided a vehicle free of charge untill your own vehicle is repaired or replaced.
I only know this because I am friends with a guildford company who provide the cars http://www.acruk.com/
If an insurance company tells you this during the selling process then they are just stating English law and not a "special" service they provide.

T1 VDUB, all the quotes i got offered/included a car (as you say) if mine is involved in a crash and is being repaired.....however this offer was not available/does not cover if my car is stolen or written off or the crash is my fault, therefore it was an additional amount to pay on my premium. I am guessing that this is correct, or should English Law provide me with a car if mine is nicked, etc??

Try a quote from Admiral on the net... its f**kin cheap!

Yep...thats where my cheapest quote came from!
-
what the difference between guaranteed and protected ncb?
-
what the difference between guaranteed and protected ncb?
Protected NCB = allows you to make up to 2 claims in a 3 year period without losing your ncb
Guaranteed NCB = allows you to make any number of claims throughout the year without losing your ncb.
Not all insurance companies offer guaranteed ncb and with others you can only guarantee it if you have full ncb.
-
Thought so, cheers.
Admiral has worked out best for me too. I'm 32 , 7yrs NCB, no points or claims and have a 95 8v. £409 fully comp with p/ncb. I think my main problem is living near the city centre and parking on the street.
I can live with that tho' as i clearly remember paying £700 tpft on a £600 fiesta supersport!
-
wow just got a quote of £408 fully comp on my 1.8 8v mk2 gti with the extensive mods declared!! very impressed with that. that was from adrian flux.
-
I have heard many stories (mainly bad) about HIC insurance, should you ever need to actually make a claim on your insurance. Are they worth avoiding or not?? :undecided: :undecided:
Have had a good quote from them in the past but any advice appreciated
-
Golf 16V, 26 years old, 8 years no claims, Fully comp, £288 from elephant.co.uk  EDIT: mk 3 Golf
Cheapest insurance I've ever had since I've starting driving.
ps, BIG TIP: Sounds daft, but add your mum, dad, or spouse's name to any insurance policy and get an extra discount!!
Would never use Admiral even if they were cheapest. They can be arses when it comes to paying out I have heard in the past, and even bigger arses when they suddenly decide to take extra money off your direct debit near the end of your policy without asking, like happened to me. I went to a solicitor over them a few years ago and they eventually sorted themselves out after about a dozen letters.
-
That is a good quote splinter, but what mk Golf? Elephant second cheapest quote and have been with them in the past, but they are all part of the Admiral Group anyway (Bell Direct, Elephant, Admiral) and have found from experience (Direct Line) that insurers never like paying out but some are easier to deal with than others. Only specifically remember bad words about HIC.
The 'TIP' is always used and saves me about £50+, and the same works on the mrs's motor if she adds me.

That's true, you can't get away from them. Same with mobile phones. Phones4U seem to buy everyone out at one stage.
