do i read this right? (not being rude, just usal thick moment)

you want to remove your sunroof and fit a non sunroof car roll cage to your sunroof car?

it can be done by taking out the sunroof and welding in a piece off roof skin to fill the hole.
personally i wouldn't bother. to weld the new skin and get it looking right, i.e no sign it once had a sunroof would take a lot of time and money.
this way you would only be removing the weight of the sunroof it self and not the weight of all the extra steel thats put in to the roof so that there can be a sunroof.
i would of thought that there are much better and easyier ways of saving weight.
i.e. just light weight bucket seats in side, no door cards, no spare wheel, no dash just clocks, fiber glass or carbon body panels or plexi glass windows the list is endless.

at the end of the day you have gotta ballance pros and cons of the weight saving you want to achieve. i have cage and an electric tilt and slide sunroof as i like a bit of through draft in hot weather and i still suprise people with the might of the 2ltr 8valve? ;D

i have used an audi 80 sunroof motor. but you gotta get the right one. i think its the same as fitted in some of the passats. the car was arond a 'n' plate so try that sort of age cars. I would go and look at the part number but its dark and cold plus there no interior light in the motor ;D

a word of warning.... you have to chop a section of suppot plate out of the car to fit the motor properly. this doesnt weeken the car its just part of the origanal mounting frame.

if you have any probs drop me a line and i will sort some picces for ya ;D

Don't really see removing the sunroof as much of a weight saving considering the amount of work needed to do it.  ???

@ Jimbo.

I've put a 12v sunroof motor in my MK2 (Off a Peugot 405 GL).

I just want to know if you put an inline fuse on the 12+ wire?.  If so what amp fuse did you use, as I don't to cause any kind of electrical malfunction/fire.

Don't know what yours looks like. Oooeer.

But this is my effort http://uk.geocities.com/madplug@btinternet.com/Tilt_n_slide.html

It works as sweet as a nut, 11 rotations exactly, the same as the MK2. ?Think my kids will sort that out though.

How do you get the sunroof to tilt? I can only get mine to slide?

you have to put a tilt n slide sunroof in first, mk2 ones dont tilt as standard, these can be got from sciroccos and audi coupe's ( the ones with the narrower roof)

could you use the standard window switch from the mk2 to use as the switch for the sunroof do you reckon? that would look tidy if there was a third window switch for the sunroof, proper tidy  :)

I don't have lecy windows myself but if you find out if it's SPDT switch (single pole double throw) then that'll do lovely.
