Title: Quick Mk2 16v Question
Post by: drapergti on 07 December 2009, 23:14
Hi

Does any know why a 1990 16v would have two aerial cables? is this part of the 8v/16v build maybe?

I have two at the back of the HU and terrible FM reception, which doesn't improve even if I swap them.

I have done a search and will test continuity at the weekend. I dont fancy taking my headlining down to fix it as they are a bit fragile at this age!

Thoughts?

Thanks

There should be only one aerial (roof mounted on the 16v). If you have 2 cables then perhaps the previous didn't remove a duff one and installed a new aerial. The 16v cable has an earth as the unit is amplified.

Many thanks, is it earthed at the roof?

Not sure - I'm sure someone will be along to confirm/deny.

It might just be the mast.

Mine is not too good, but with the mast off my 2004 Passat fitted, it works just fine.
