Title: Should i have Heated Mirrors?
Post by: Len on 12 October 2004, 11:20
Mine is a Mk 3 '97 P reg. 2.0ltr 16v.

Got leccy mirrors for adjustment, but dont seem to be heated.

Is this correct or are mine not working?

If not fitted as standard can i get some anywhere?

You do have heated mirrors.  They work from the heated rear window switch.  Turn that on and the mirrors heat up.  If they still don't work then, they are probably broken.

Oh dear.  I think the most common problem is just the elements in the glass burning out which means a new glass.  I guess a srappy might be the cheapest fix, if you can find working ones in there.  I hope you can as a new mirror glass from vw is probably well over ?30.

If ya get em from a scrappy how easily can ya tell if they work b4 ya buy?

If its only ?30 i might go that way. But next thing is how easy are they to fit without breaking the glass?

Erm, you can't, it would be a bit of a gamble!

The tricky bit of changing mirrors is getting the old ones out without breaking them, but that doesn't really matter.  Getting the new ones in is just a matter of applying pressure in the right place until it clips in.  Quite a simple job, just take your time and don't force it too hard.

Oh dear - i am rather heavy handed.

Hmmmm will have to give this some thought or get my son-in-laws brother to do it for me.
