Was in a VW showroom on Saturday hoping to see the new GTI. The salesman told me the back log for orders is now three to four month, maybe as much as five. Surly VW are not shifting so many GTI’s ? I told the sales man I wanted a GTI for June and he told me I should order soon. So I will go in on January. I’m hoping he can meet the what car target price which is roughly a £1,000 off. We will see.
Has anyone got the Adaptive chassis Control? I had an Audi A3 sport and my daughter hated travelling in the back so wondering if getting Adaptive chassis Control system would make a difference for travelling in the back.
Xeon lights has anyone tried these on a good B road. I have read they point with the steering wheel making go round corners in the dark easier? This sounds like a great safety option
Will up grade the stereo and speakers.
At the moment my Outlander has the Sat nav with 30bg hard drive dvd and so on. Personally I can’t justify £1,900 in the VW system.
Winter pack is a must if only to get the heated water jets. I have had clogged up jets in winter months which can be dangerous
Will go for plain black. I’m forever giving my cars a coat of wax so I’m sure plan black will look good with a glaze over it
Running costs. I’m now 50 as is my wife. We live in the country and have a protected no clams policy. Anyone any idea what the cost will be about
What mpg are you getting in real world driving?
3 year service plan at £250 is fantastic value

ACC - don't have it i'm afraid
Xenon lights - yes, they move as you go round corners, v cool
upgrade the stereo, its well worth it. the rcd510 with dynaudio is awesome
winter pack - yep
black - i have it in black, gets filthy quickly (especially at the moment) but looks awesome when clean
insurance - i'm 33 with 10 years no claims (protected) and i think it came out at 400 quid a year odd
i get about 32 mph on average i would say, mixture of roads as well. and i leather it at every given opportunity so all in all i can't complain with that!
hope that's of some help!

I have the xenons and took some backroads this past weekend during night time. Foggy, dark so it was really cool to see the beams move as I turned. Cannot really say that it is a huge advantage over regular xenons (had the R32 before this one) but as it comes standard I don´t complain.
Upgraded to the Dynaudio and very happy with the sound. Well worth the extra cost.
I averaged 7.3L/100km (38.5 MPG, UK) on a 445km round trip, mixed driving highway, backroads, some stop-go traffic. Car only has around 1100km on the clock though so milage is sure to improve. I think my average speed was around 90km/h. Mind you I didn´t trash it at all since it´s still breaking in.

I have ACC and actually use it more than I thought I would. Sport mode is really very firm and I can only stand it for a few miles when I'm by myself and feeling frisky. I sometimes put it in Normal, but 90% of the time - and 100% of the time when I have passengers - I use the Comfort setting. The difference between the 3 settings is not huge, but it is noticeable, especially when you flick from Comfort to Sport. I drove a non-ACC car before ordering mine and that was way too firm for my taste (more or less like the Sport setting ). It's a fairly expensive option, but well worth having, IMO. It was one of the reasons I went for the Golf in the first place, TBH: it's one of the only cars in its class to offer a relatively comfortable ride. That said, the ride of our Renault Espace is incomparably more compliant, so don't expect limousine levels of comfort from the GTI, even with the ACC on Comfort.
As for xenon lights, yes they are nice, but not worth the additional cost, IMO. I have had them on 3 previous cars, 2 of which had the active system for lighting up bends. Hmm, yes, I suppose it is a plus, but to be honest, I think it's a bit of a gimmick. I don't think I ever drove round a badly lit bend quickly enough to have to rely on them. I will probably get slated for this, as pro-xenon members absolutely love them, but personally I don't think they're that important. They do look cool, however

There is a couple of videos on youtube of the xenons in action. I have posted the links on hee before.
Yes the delays are vast! but not just for GTIs all vws at the current time.

I have ACC, but I'm not sure I'd have got it if I didn't have to ferry my elderly mother around. As far as I can make out, the only real comparison is between cars with and cars without, and you'd probably have to drive both for a bit to see the difference. As I only had a short test drive in a non-ACC car, I'm not altogether sure how much difference it makes.
I'm getting about 32-33mpg, mostly rural driving. The 38mpg combined is a pack of lies.
I'm curious about whether all manufacturer's fuel consumption figures as as big a fiction as VWs.
Rolfe.

Actually I find the figures very close to real life. Sure, you have to drive conservatively and do a lot of eco driving but it is fully possible as my figure showed on my trip last week. The R32 I had previously stated 9.7l/100km as the official figure and my average was always very close, 10.0l/100km on average. But again, different driving styles, different real-life figures. I guess I just drive my cars "normal" with some high revs every now and then...just as VW intended it to be
-
Well, I'd say that describes my driving too. I can just manage 41mpg coasting downhill.
Can you really clock 38mpg brim to brim, in anything like normal conditions? That is, not doing a steady 50 on the motorway?
Rolfe.

Well, my commute to work every day is 50km turn-return trip. Highway mostly (doing 70mph). Brim to brim last time I averaged 8.1l/100km so a bit higher than the stated "mixed" figure. I find the official figure more or less correct if you do your "mixed" driving on the highway, keeping the speed to about 55-60mph on average. So yes, you could consider that "not normal".
If the official mixed figure would involve 40% stop and go traffic, city driving and 60% highway I would say that I probably exceed the 7.4l/100km figure by 8-10% on average.

At the risk of turning this into a fuel consumption thread, I have to agree with Rolfe. I can just about manage 40mpg when cruising very sensibly at 90kph, but any acceleration/stop & start driving sees the average plummet instantly to about 32.

i managed 42mpg over a 400mile round trip

Don't know how you manage that!
My car got 870miles on the clock and can only manage less than 320miles on one full tank of Shell Superunleaded! Saying this, I do a lot of town driving!

Did I, or did I not, suggest in numerous threads over the last few months that you take the 'official' combined and knock 5-6 MPG off it...?
If economy is a worry, by a GTD. Otherwise, enjoy your car.

Consumption, CO2 and the like are Government figures applied through standardised testing, not manufacturer figures.

Again today... 150miles 40.1mpg

Hes a skill man i tell ya , his old 3.2 litre, V6 R32 did the same aswell......................apparently
Free wheel the car, dont stop, avoid traffic lights and traffic jams and drive on downhill roads but never drive uphill then 420miles is very likely.,or live in the Sticks to avoid all the above

Apparently??? come on Phil there was some pretty conclusive evidence posted if my memory serves me correctly
In that same journey the trip comp was telling me I had 70miles left in the tank (after 400) I would have liked to see how far it got me, but back into town driving it was never going to happen.
But Skilled.... I will take that as a compliment Phil

http://www.spritmonitor.de/en/ (http://www.spritmonitor.de/en/) has real life MPG. If you register you can adjust how it displays MPG etc.
I opted for the TDi but my quote for the GTI was £242 fully comp. I'm 41 Full NCB, good postcode. That was with Morethan and at the time they were giving £70 cashback if you went via quidco.com. I thought £172 for GTI insurance was fantastic.
-
prob down to lots of short journey's in town, but I struggle to get anything above 28 mpg!
:undecided:
-
Personally, I love the ACC, you can change it to suit your mood/conditions and it does make quite a difference to the ride.
The heated seats (really quick to warm up with the Jacara) are great, the headlamp washers however I just find a pain in the butt as you can't control when they spray (normally just after cleaning).
Heated washer jets? I'll let you know in January.

My first tankful is almost empty now and the MFD is showing a combined figure of 28.7MPG (I changed from l/100km in the display, which is nice of VW to provide!) But my recent journey, doing constant 70mph has shown 40MPG on the average, but drops quickly to about 34MPG in 15mins of stop/start traffic.
Hope it gets better with time, but the car is great! I was also told by the dealer here that the engine is fully prepared and run in so you do not need to take it easy for the first 1000 miles or so...awesome!
