Title: Price Increase
Post by: rjwojcik on 07 December 2009, 13:48
Just rang my dealer, needed a shoulder to cry on and what my options were if I cancelled. I can get my deposit back, no problems.   Anyway, he also mentioned that there is a price increase beginning of Jan, didn't they increase them in Sep?  Unless it's just for the VAT bit.

It is the VAT increase on the first of January, but that only applies to invoices rendered after that date.

They should be able to invoice you before the end of this month even if you don't pay until you take delivery of the car. My Father-in-law has a new car ordered for February delivery, and he has been invoiced with the VAT at 15% already.

how close are you to cancelling?  I've been toying with the idea myself all day today, really fed up with waiting too.  I think I'm going to cancel.

What would you go for instead?

H12
At the present time I have really had enough, they think they can salesman me. The thing is they don't know me or my family and our history. I am surounded by relations/generations of family who are/have been in the motortade ,i grow up round/in it! I have seen and heard it all. The top and bottom of it as i see it is they basically cannot be arsed to make a couple of phone calls to try and help me. Thank your luckie stars you found a helpful salesman who actually knows what customer service is!
The thought of handling £23K of MY money over to them, at this time i would rather reorder with someone who gives a damb! and pay the new higher price for at least some service!
I should have known better. hindsight is a great thing i was offered the same % discount from a local dealer back in August but he had no August allocation left so would be the new higher september price, if i had known back then what i know now he would have got my money especially as i know his reputaion.

IIRC
Theres often a price increase around March,

The way other firms are putting up prices ie ford i would not put it ast vw to cash in and also do quite a few extra ones over the norm.

Hello
No idea as yet, but toying with the idea of getting an Ed30.  OK, 2nd hand but could get something straight away, if I can find one I like.  So may start looking, if I find one I'll cancel the order.  If I don't find one, well, we'll see.  Looked at new Audi's but they also have a waiting list.

End of the day. All these people who are waiting on these cars saying im gna cancel because of the que's etc.. To be honest in im sure VW couldnt care less about all these people who are whinging and cancelling because of a wait or a factory ordered car.
The demand for the GTI is greater then the supply. If you want to wait u wait if u dont u dont. I personally waited 4months and am quite happy to see others waiting even longer. Makes me feel like I got a bargain getting in there early when the order book 1st opened

There is certainly demand (remember this is a GTI forum after all !!), but the only reason its outstripping supply is because of the parts supply chain into the factory (sunroofs initially, then xenons, now RCD510s), and dealer allocations.

The allocation for the UK has been cut to bring in line with current factory output (albeit it very busy by all accounts) and expected sales - the german scrappage scheme generated more interest than expected, as did the UK one for lesser Golfs. The fact dealers order 10s of basic 1.4S cars for scrappage sales is understandable, and will impact on other models production schedules.

Also for every one of those UK £s you spend in the showroom, VW Group in Germany gets less euros in their account due to the strength of the euro:£   so its hardly surprising they may favour other countries builds too.  Not sure what a Golf GTI is in Germany but i reckon VAG get more euros on one of those than a sale in blighty.

My TDI will be at the dealers this week - i ordered early September, but it was a car they already had on order (i was able to amend the spec tho). No sunroof, no RCD510, no xenons, a few extras but nothign major. the build week moved about a little but the car will be delivered ahead of Xmas as per my original order requirements.  Getting the equivalent of a broker discounts direct with the dealer no doubt helps (mine got within £50 of Carfiles 10% discount)
