changing the spec of the order - determined not to spend more than £26K so am watching the options:
99.9% sure:
carbon grey, 3 door DSG with
RCD 510 with Dynaudio
18''Monza Shadows
VW Touch Phone
Winter Pack
Lux Pack
Flat Tyre
Touring Safety Pack
DAB
Door Sill Trims
Boot Sill Trims
The only change I would make is chuck out the RCD 510, Dynaudio and metallic paint and get leather but only with view to resale. Personally, I think RCD is a must (cheap to get such a different look in the car), Dynaudio is a cheap sound upgrade, I think Carbon Grey is a good paint for resale - chuck those out and the car is a bit basic - I think that as an 'either/or', I'm better off, re enjoyment and resale, with the RCD 510, Dynaudio and Carbon Grey than leather (I also like the look of the cloth and think it's more comfortable that the leather).
No disrespect intended to those of you with non-metallic/pearlescent paint and leather interior cars!!
Thnx

Balls to resale. Just get what you want at a price you can afford. Simples.
-
Thnx, SC - you're right...
-
I'll go along with that.
The options won't be worth anything like money you pay for the now when it comes to resale value. The trade will still only value it as a 3 door DSG car whatever extras it has on it. They will only pay a bit extra for a speced up one if they have a customer lined up for it.
I would spec my car to have everything I wanted, but then I tend to keep my cars a lot longer than most, so would get my monies worth.
If you really want certainoptions and can afford to pay for them, then get them, but be prepared to never see that cash again if you trade the car in after a couple of years.

Halo James,
Your determination to stick to a budget of £26K is not going to cover the spec you are after unless you mean ex VAT. It comes to £26920. [Not including touring safety pack, door sill trims and boot sill trims, which I can't find listed as options]
Good luck,
RickS

so no value difference after 3 years between 2 Gtis of the same spec except for one having cloth and the other having leather? - surely, at least £500?! perhaps because leather is not a 'must have' as it is in some cars, the £1,700 cost kind of goes out the window...?
-
it does - £25,800 - confirmed - must be a bit of a 'deal'

You do get more value back for a better spec, depends if your easily fooled by the salesman saying its what the book says. Total bollox.

The dealers will always increase the retail value of a well speced car, but from past experience, it is difficult to get them to increase their trade values accordingly.
Some dealers still have the air of a take it or leave it arrogance that BMW and Mercedes dealers were renownd for. A well speced car will always sell well privately, but if you take it back to the dealer, don't expect an easy ride.

What are boot sill trims? Any pictures?

I'll stick with RCD 500, Dynaudio and my preferred colour and not bother with the leather - this car is for me, not for the person who will have it in 3, 4 or 5 years!
-
they cost £20 or £30 quid (for the transparent ones) - I believe they are in place to stop 'you' scratching the boot sill when you drag a heavy case out of the boot - I guess the door sill trims are to stop you knocking/scratching the car door sill when getting in and out of the car. No pics, sorry.

Not too bad in the current climate 4.2% they did offer a bit more to me back in August  but i was stupid enough to go with another firm who offered the same % discount they did but said they could get August allocation/November delivey, How wonderfull hindsight is.

not bother with the leather
Good idea - retro cool! :afro:

Couldn't agree more.
