I am replacing the turbo on a friends mk4 (agu) and one of the underside manifold bolts has rounded and have no chance of getting anything up thre to get it off. If I remove the cat section and possibly the driveshaft, can the turbo and actuator etc be bought out underneath? Anyone know if there is enough room between the bulkhead/subrame and the block? Any help would be cracking as im back on it 2moz! Cheers, Ben.

I believe you're meant to remove the turbo from underneath anyway mate.

There is more room than you think between the block and bulkhead, the only problem that i can see from removing it is that the turbo needs to be moved up off it's bracket before it can come down.Unless you can get that manifold off i feel it might be a nightmare :lipsrsealed:

Ah ha, I thought there may be an issue like that. I thought I saw a bolt holding said bracket onto the block or I m,ay have been mistaken. Problem is, is that said rounded bolt/nut is the one pretty much under the turbo, so I can even get any grips on the bugger. Ben

tbh mate ive taken my turbo off a few times before now and i think it would be hard to remove all the things you would need to to get the turbo off as you have a rounded bolt...can you not put a smaller sized socket on and somehow try to smash it onto the nut? limited room i kno lol

Persistence is the key. But if you are considering doing this... dont bother, ive done a vr6 conversion quicker than this! So tight and cramped up there, hardly any room to get a decent grip on any thing. I took a shaft off and bought it out the bottom. All sorted now, cheers, for help. Ben
