Hi guys. I just wanted to ask a few n00b questions about a coolant flush on my car (1999 MK4 Golf 1.8 20vt, AGU lump).
I've bought 2 bottles of G12++ so 3 litres in total.
How much liquid does the coolant system generally hold?
Secondly... how much G12 to water should I realistically use? The guide on here says both bottles so 3L then just top up with water... but how do I know if I've used too much G12 if you get me. The G12 bottles say 2:3 ratio (G12 to water) for down to -24 deg C protection... Just wanna make sure it's done perfectly so I can top it up the same if I mix some in an old cleaned out coolant bottle etc.
Thirdly... I've got some de-ionized water from Asda, car plan branded.. it says for use in batteries, irons etc.. is it fine for this job too or do I need to use tap water or some other form of filtered water? lol :) I have 3 litres of it.
Cheers guys.

I use normal tap water. That water will be fine though.
After doing mine I fill it with G12++ then keep topping up with water, the system holds under 5 litres so the mixrture will still be strong enough.
Also there's a tap on the RH side (looking into the bay) on the rad to drain coolant or pop the hose off next to the tap.
Remeber to get the air bubbles by holding it at 2k for a bit whilst having the heater on full pointing to the windscreen. Then when you use if after be sure to have some water in the boot as you'll most probably need to top up.

Might be worth while buying an anti-freeze stregnth tester mate, can pick them up for a few quid. Not somehting you want to risk, too weak and you could kill your motor and if the mixture is too strong then that can cause problems of it own.

What do you guys think to me mixing it in a 5L bottle then, as I say I don't wanna do it wrong either end of the scale..
2 bottles of G12++ so 3L then 2L of that water. Would that be right? Then fill the whole system using that?

just stick the g12 in and use water for the rest you may not get all the coolant out but I think you will get 4-4.5l in it

Personaly i would mix it first cant go wrong that way, too strong a mix of g12 and you can blow your head gasket if it's weak at all
-
Yeah I think mixing it first seeing as I have an empty 5L bottle is the best trick.
Think I got it wrong really, if it's 2:3 ratio it'd be more like 2L G12 and 3L water right? lol.. maybe stick 2.5L g12 in and the rest water, half and half should be best of both worlds surely :D

yeah 50 50 will prob give you -40 protection

This is the sticker on the back of the G12 if it helps you guys to help me make a decision lol :)

wasnt far off with -40 then  personally i would do 2:3 we are never likely to see -24

Stick with that plan, although you probably wont use it all as you can't drain the entire system. That way you can do top ups with water without worrying about diluting the mix too much.
