Bin trying to find the perfect 1.8T for my budget and so far no real luck. The reason for this post is because I've found this car http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/200949347657959/sort/pricedesc/usedcars/make/volkswagen/model/golf/price-to/4000/page/2/postcode/bh124dn/radius/20/quicksearch/true?previous=%2Fsearch%2Fresults%2Fusedcars%2Fpostcode%2Fbh124dn%2Fradius%2F20%2Fmake%2Fvolkswagen%2Fmodel%2Fgolf%2Fprice-to%2F4000%2Fpage%2F2%2Fsort%2Fpricedesc%2Fquicksearch%2Ftrue&anchor=advert200949347657959&logcode=p (http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/200949347657959/sort/pricedesc/usedcars/make/volkswagen/model/golf/price-to/4000/page/2/postcode/bh124dn/radius/20/quicksearch/true?previous=%2Fsearch%2Fresults%2Fusedcars%2Fpostcode%2Fbh124dn%2Fradius%2F20%2Fmake%2Fvolkswagen%2Fmodel%2Fgolf%2Fprice-to%2F4000%2Fpage%2F2%2Fsort%2Fpricedesc%2Fquicksearch%2Ftrue&anchor=advert200949347657959&logcode=p) but it has what i feel is a high mileage for the year. Does the mileage really mean that much when looking to purchase a car?
-
Also i've find a private sale 1.8T, 02 plate with 80k miles for £2895 but it is a Cat D insurance loss. Does anyone have any experience or advice on buying cars involved in insurance loss claims?
-
My octavia vrs is now on 136,000 miles and is still going strong. Aslong as it has FSH etc then that millage isnt unacceptable. Would risk buying a insurance write off vehicle myself.

what about this one

Its my mate's and for the money you'll struggle to find better

Would do but I'm looking for a standard one, I feel less can go wrong with one's that ain't bin modified. Plus there is the insurance side of things.

You didn't state that in your post
But the one you linked too I wouldn't pay that much for such a high mileage car
-
I'm always reluctant to buy a high mileage car but wasn't sure if it was me being silly lol! In theory if the car has bin looked after and serviced regularly then the mileage shouldn't mean much, if it hasn't then there could be a lot to go wrong I spose. I'm going to ring my insurance on Monday and see if they will insure me on a modified car. Might have to go down that route cos there really ain't much about at the mo :(. Plus it does look like a very fine example!

mine car is similar age to the one in the autotrader link, I paid £2800 for it from autotrader in april with 53k and fsh, so keep looking. For that money you can do alot better.
-
How far are you prepared to travel? If need be, increase the distance to 200 miles & make a day of it.
-
a mate of mine brought a cat c and had to do a little work but is runnin fine and got it for 1800k, with 86k, 2000 reg 115bhp

Mowlamb, you're not too far away from me (London) & there are currently a few 1.8ts for a low price if you fancied the traveling.

Mines done 114k now (2001 1.8t) and it runs brilliantly, as said FSH counts for alot with these motors, mine has FSH and it was a fleet car when it was new and covered over 60k in it's first 3 years which was mainly motorway mileage and came with £3.7k worth of bills just from those 3 years alone which was reassuring when i bought it...

Don't worry too much about milage. Believe me lots can go wrong regardless of miles on the clock!
Copy and paste of a post of mine from elsewhere:
I got mine in Aug after a bit of searching... Paid £2250 for it - 99 V plate, 127k but lowered, Audi TT wheels, powerflex rear bushes and dog bone, new engine mounts all round, new window mechs and bits and bobs which are prone for failing, tinted, remapped etc.. so not a bad buy despite the milage. It drives MUCH better than milage suggests also. Don't worry about mods if the car is GOOD. I was avoiding modded cars but got mine from a aircraft tech from the RAF who had it for 3 yrs and it was well looked after. Got it a bit cheaper as cambelt was due but thats getting done soon. Only had minor niggles which seem a common thing anyway regardless of age, milage etc!

If this is of use by all means print and use it, something I collated when looking @ the Golfs to buy...
