Title: engine warning light
Post by: CJHILLY on 05 December 2009, 08:42
Engine warning just keeps lighting up.  Had it plugged in so many times. The result is nothing wrong!  can i remove a fuse or something to stop it lighting up.  Its in a 2.0 l gti , 8 valve 2001 that's on a y reg.

i reakon it would be a far better idea to find the reason its coming on

yes, there must be a reason for it coming on. When you say you've had it plugged in, who did it and what did they use?

also did you scan the other modules - engine warning light could come on for something non-engine related  :nerd:

e.g on a diesel the glow plug lamp can indicate a brake light switch failure  :nerd:

Its been plugged in to a computer so many times.  First time no codes 2nd time came up with problem about the cat.  Its had the new cat fitted. The light went off for less than a day. Now back on.  The garage said to me just forget about it.  But its bugging me now.

sounds like they've snagged the wiring going to the lambda sensor  :undecided:

Hope the cat is still ok as its new.  Is the lambda sensor easy to access/change? Don't no much about it other than it sensors if the fuel is rich or lean. Don't no man! all i want is for it to be running ok.

need to get under the car to access it but you want to sort it ASAP before it ruins your new cat
