thinking of selling my edition 30 for a sirocco 170 diesel. The rocco is a factory order and my local dealer has offered me £17000 when the car arrives in late Feb 2010. not a bad price but aparantly they are in demand as the new r is overpriced. ive got a 08 plate in candy white, 3 door, 13000 mile with elec sunroof, i-pod, rear tinted windows.
what does anyone think of this price.

Your mad to sell the Ed30 tbh.
Only benefit is if your a motorway Miler man.
Trade in £16000 at a dealership, private shift would see more near £18500+ minimum.
-
candy white ED30's are rare and sought after so you would expect 20k with private sale, then go armed with the cash.
-
Scirocco diesels annoy the living crap out of me. There's nothing sports coupé about a tractor engine! If you want MPG get a diesel Polo or something, a Golf if you really need the size. Diesel Polos just go and go and go and go.
But to be helpful, go for a private sale and walking in with cash. You'll probably manage to get more privately and then maybe have the benefit of a cash discount too.

agree with what jimp says tbh, but we have just bout a diesel for the misses as she does 60 miles a day felt bad leaving the dubs but we are still in the group! went for a Seat 1.6 common rail, same one they are putting in new audis and golfs etc but at a fraction of the cost. we should be saving about a ton a month just by moving from an 07 to a 59 but in diesel. she doesnt really car for going fast any way! but its 105ps which isnt too bad for 67mpg, so its quite inviting and i see where the OP comes from on that level...

Or keep the Ed30 and get a workhorse diesel shed for pounding the motorway miles... or get the train. :afro:
-
ok i get the message, i test drove one yesterday and it was noisey and slow. looks like the edition 30 is staying.

You are having a laugh, right? OK, white is realtively rare and therefore may be worth a little more than another Ed 30.
£20K in a private sale  I saw a very high spec Ed 30, 5-Door, DSG, Xenons etc etc. in a VW Dealer, 08 plate for less than that. OK it wasn't white but I guess you're a little optimistic.
Based on the book price £17K is not a bad offer at all. If you could sell it for more than that in a private sale, you'd be doing quite well...

white with DGS = saught after and worth a lot more than 17k to an enthusiast. people are paying minimum of 19k without DSG on the white eddies... but black ones are the fastest though im afraid!
-
theres a white 5 dr at vw £17950, im sure you can get that cheaper also 57 reg silver at dealers 3 dr silver 12000 miles £15500 so anyone paying 19k+ must be mad
-
ok carl so its white 5 door manual i guess and what plate and mileage? 15 and a half for an 57 ed30 is a very good deal but they are around and common in comparison unlike the dsg white ones. maybe in a few months it will change but for the last 2 years the white dsg's have been holding a lot more value. im hoping its just a fad and people will realise black is the way forward in a few years when i think about chopping in mine!

It may be sought after in some quarters. How do you know they have been sellling at £19K just because some deluded soul advertises it and appears to sell it doesn't mean that he got what he asked...
OK so white's rarer and with DSG rarer still but there's also a limited market - afterall there's a reason why they're rarer. In this case for enthusiast read sucker... why would you pay ~£2K more for the same car just because it is white and not black, silver or red.
A car is worth what somebody will pay for it but it would be delusional to believe that in the general market that anyone, outside of your so-called enthusiast, would pay anything close to £19K or £20K for a White Ed 30...
-
there are some crazy people out there corgi
do a bit of research mate
i for one would rather have a black one
-
anyway as a new car mine was 26k regardless of colour so if you find an 08 plate car which is a year and half onld but 19k but at the exact spec your after ie white with DSG is that so bad bearing in mind it will still hold its value as its done its biggest drop in the first year!
-
no matter how it looks, white is b!tch to keep clean!

I did my research... bought a black, manual, 5-Door, import but full UK Spec and it cost me much closer to £17K than £18K. Brand new and unregistered... quite a lot of change from £26K even if it is of a lower spec... And will its value be effected when its three years old... not really...
-
17 grand for a brand new ED30 you did very well :nerd:
-
^^his is manual, 2 year warranty, and an Import thats why he only payed that Nick.He wont recover as much come trade in, and side by side between say mine and a Poverty spec, i wouldnt touch the Povert spec one, and nor would a GTi enthusiast if he reads about the car.
Pretty much all 5 door DSG Edition30's are holding better value because they are in a different class in the dealers sale books.Hense why 5 door DSG's are very few and far between and certainly not below 18k.
I agree, Candy white Dsg, Good spec cars are going for that money.
3 door GTI's have taken abit of a hit with the introduction of the Scirocco.

the white one is a 57 reg with 24k miles and their is dsg 5 doors for £17295 19k miles 07 reg so i could get that close to 16k cash, also others under 18k.
-
oh ok phil i see what you mean, still a very good price for a brand new one i remember motorpoint had loads of new ones going quite cheap a couple of years ago were they imports then? i hope the steering wheels are on the right side!!
carl- if you could get the 07 DSG with 19k miles on it for 16 and a half i think that would be a great deal even the white ones a good price last time i looked there was a 57 plate at 24k miles for 18 and a half just depends if your after the manny tranny or not
-
I said its an import...
Once it is three years old its value will be little or no different from any other Ed30 of the same spec...
I can purchase the third year of warranty for much less than he difference...
The thing that swung ot for me was a VW Dealer (who shall remain nameless) was selling one the same as mine with the addition of DSG and Xenons but a year older (with 9K miles) for £6K more than I ended up paying for mine... makes DSG and Xenons look like very expensive options to me... or I hammered out a pretty good deal.
I was very pleased with picking it up for what I paid...
