Title: Golf Mk2 Heater - No heat!!!...
Post by: dubchaser on 11 October 2004, 11:29
Hi

1991 Mk2 Golf Driver 1595cc.

My heater system no longer works.  I just get cold air all the time.  No good as it's getting cold out there!

I changed the old heater matrix (hidden below/behind) the dash for a new one.  Tis did'nt cure the problem.

Also flushed the system with clean water, including the radiator.  Still no joy.

Anyone had the same problem or have any ideas on how to bring my heating back?

I don't want to freeze another winter.

Cheers
Lee

sounds like an air lock in the system

just run the car with the expansion cap off and make sure the heaters are set to max heat.

let it sit idling till either the water boils over or the fan kicks in.

Might be the bypass valves, to check replace them with straight through piping, make sure the ends are flared so the pipes don't blow off!

Could also be the water pump isn't strong enough or the impeller has dropped off it!

pop ur bonnet and just below ur water resouir there should be 2 water pipes heading into the car, thats where u should be looking for the valves(big metal or plastic things half way in the piping). i just took em out and put acopper pipe in mine back in feb and havent had a problem since

the valves were fitted to mk2s after a factory recall, they stop high pressure building up and blowing up the matrix.

you should replace the two valves, they are about a tenner each from german swedish and french parts!
