Title: de-icing
Post by: Guy on 01 December 2009, 11:54
crikey... spent about 10 minutes trying to get into the car this morning

frost wasn't particularly strong but I couldn't get the key into the lock at first and the de-icer was in the boot... then once i had managed to persuade the key into the lock the door seals were frozen so much that I couldn't open the door... every other door opened ok. I tried from the inside. I did the auto-open with the windows and tried pulling on the door (I didn't want to pull the handle off).... all to no avail..  eventually after a good 10 minutes it finally gave...

any solutions to this.. anything I can treat the rubber seals with as I guess this is what is freezing, anything I can treat the lock with too as not being able to get a key in is a PITA

A good dose of WD40 in the lock?
Door seals, how about washing up liquid? have to watch clothes though, getting in and out.
Or wipe with screen wash?

Good old vasaline on the door seals works a treat. Door locks you can use WD or 3in1.

I need to do this as this morning I had to climb int he car through the boot!
