Are the tappits on a mk1 adjustable or do they need to be replaced??,
They are only noisy until th engine reaches temperature then they settle down,
Cheers Guys n Girls
Andy.

depends.. it depends on they changed over to hydrolic sometime in the 80's
the early ones had shims which needed replacing where as the later ones are hydrolic so if they tap when hot they need replacing!
there all noise at cold but they quieten down when the engines up to tempreture!
even if they are noisey when hot unless the noise bothers you most people level them as they dont cause or do any damage!
-
i think i might leave them.
my old man says that if they are noisey when you start up then at least you know they are working.
Thanks for the advice,
Andy

is this the same for the mark 2 because my tappits are noisy as hell when i first start up but once my oil gets above 60 it quitens down. Sounds r ough though
-
Yeah mk2 is the same. You can try draining the oil, flushing through with some flushing oil and then changing the filter and puting fresh oil in. That can usually help to quiten them down.
The oil ways into the hydraulic tappets are quite small so it doesn't take a lot for the oil flow to get impeded.

Thanks for that.
I will give that a try,
Sounds like a pretty common thing.
Thanks
