Title: Heater blower help
Post by: Deefadog on 10 October 2004, 14:13
My blower has suddenly gone funny, the blower only works on setting 3? I have tested tyhe powr and when pluged in on setting 1 & 2 there are three live wires (one power in and the other two are settings 1 & 2) on the control, unplug and ony two work on both settings one being thepoer in again and the other the setting it should be on.

Now I guess the lives are touching inside the blower, the plastic rectangle that the connector is on is very lose, This is the cause I guess! Can i pull this out and check the wiring behind? in was held in by to small solders ? I am afraid to pull it inase i make it worse??

Thanks

the resistor sounds like its gone.

Where the wires plug into. This is the part you need to change. not sure how much they cost to replace from VW but GPC sell them at 16 quid.

You need to twist the whole heater fan and then pull it out, then chenge the resistor. i did this a long time ago and it was quite simple.

So the lower half can be just twisted off, so i can get a look at the wiring inside?

Blue MK2 - When you mentioned bout changing the resistor how is this done? I have twisted the fan out but it looks a sealed unit?

I guess it is the resistor as the fan works on setting 3!

Cheers

Yes mate, the plastic bit that the connectors go to is half hanging out anyway :) (it is soldered in at the forur corners! so i can pull that out i can get at the wires? Is there a length of lead in there? I don't want to pull this and loose my third power!
