Got a purple/blue Mk3, and want to respray it, thinking that it will be cheaper to respray the same color, rather than do a complete car respray to a different color, right?
And when they spray the same color, they only do the exterior, correct? I don't want to strip down the whole car, and mess up the door cards or other stuff.
So how much and where?
-
expect well over £1000 for something decent, and around £2000 for a very good job.
-
you could buy a mint gti in a colour you want for the price of a respray...
-
Never worth the expense unless you really like the car.
-
For a blow over in the same colour you should be able to get a good job for around £600 if you put in the effort to do some of the prep and shizz yourself.

If you want a good good job thought, £2000 will still come short, way short.
Depends how much of the car you want stripped, and if you want insides of doors, door shuts, boot shuts etc done.
Are we talking stipping the car down to a shell? Do you want bumpers done too?
It varies so much.

It varies so much.
Yeah, depends reputation of the garage doing it, how much work you put into it beforehand, color (some are more expensive than others), how much of the body do you want to spray (floor pan, boot, bumpers)

I've done some research and found a company (http://www.spray-tek.co.uk/index.html), who gave me a quote of £800, although, I didn't ask any details whether they are going to strip down the car or it's exterior respray only.
Also found a private guy on eBay for £450, but I'm not sure about him..
Well, basically I'm considering 2 options:
1. If a complete respray (everything, including inside doors, boot, under the bonnet, etc) is not too much, then I would want to spray it black.
2. The other thing in my mind is just respray the exterior the same color, without touching anything inside. This shouldn't cost a lot, I believe.

A decent job should cost you around 2.5k up, that's with no rust repairs, minor dents and scratches, a full hit in a different colour, expect to pay 4 to 5k up... concours paint can cost anywhere between 10 and 20k.... how long is a piece of string
Theirs plenty of fantastic paint shops in and around the smoke, I would turn up at somewhere like the Ace Cafe a few time's, and check out who's painting the cars that grab your attention! and try and avoid mates doing work for you! thats normally when it all goes wrong

Dont for god sake search around for the cheapest quote!
Go see peoples work, see what they can knock out, and if you cant afford it then wait.
Also, how much prep you do yourself? No offence to anyone, but this is asking for trouble, as if it comes out not to the standards of the other cars, this can be put down to you. I would take it in a complete car, and let them do it all from stage 1.
This is coming from what i have had done myself.
I paid £1200 for wings, bonnet, grill, doors, door shuts, rear quarters etc with a few scratches and small dents etc, and also wrotten sills that were cut out and welded up then painted.
This DIDNT include having the bumpers done, the boot or the roof, and obviously not the inside of the car either, purely as i wanted some other stuff done to the boot and bumpers, and the roof really was fine as is.
Hope that helps :) And it came out perfect, as i shopped around first.

Naaahh, obviously, I'm not after the cheapest one ;) At the end of the day, you get what you pay for, right?
"Spray Tek" seems like a professional company based in East London with plenty of experience, and serious portfolio - http://www.spray-tek.co.uk/
As I said, they quoted £800 (which I thought is too much), but I didn't go into details, so I'll send another email today and see what they are saying.
I'm definitely NOT paying £1000+ for a respray, lol
-
it'd cost £500 in paint alone...so be wary of the cheap quotes.
-
also note that mk3's are worthless so you wont get back any money you spend on a respray
-
Got a reply from Spray Tek...Their quote of £800 is for exterior only...
Probably I'll need to think about whether it's worth respraying or not, because seems like it's not worth it, even if I like the car and want to keep it for a while.

£800 for a blow over sounds about right

lolz, doesn't sound right for me....I thought I would get away with about £300-500 :undecided:
-
you're talking 10-15hrs for labour on top of the paint. So you've got to ask what finish you're going to get for £300

Your really better off not getting a respray then......

Alright, no probs. Thanks for help, dubbers.

After tinting my windows, an idea came to my mind to "wrap" the car instead of painting it...Any advice on this?

I think somebody's mate on here does it. From memory it's about a grand.
