Until the build week has a definite confirmed date as then parts start whinging there way to the production line.
I asked my dealer to add options and they said they couldn't as the build had been frozen (confirmed build). I got them to phone customer services and they came back to me and said they had been instructed to call Germany direct to add the options but it was still a no go. So I phoned customer services and was told the same!!!

It was a good way to know my build date had been confirmed though

P3asa im a bit confused by your posts. You post above says confirmed build week but in the links it just talks about given a build week after 3 week. Im guessing that was a quick confirmed date than rather than the usual provisional one that you normally get after 3 weeks :undecided:

At the present time my car no longer has a provisional build week its simply listed as a factory ordered car.
The exact quotes are "there is no scheduled built date"
" I cannot confirm this with you as the factory status only says factory ordered."

I use to have a provisional build week of first 46 then it slipped to 48 then to 50 now it does not list one so my dealer says.

Who's P2asa?

A provisional build week just means it is on the system and a very approximate date that it will be built.
A confirmed build week is given to you generally 4 to 5 weeks prior to the car going in to production. That is when you then can't add or change the order as all the components are making there way to the production line and it is regarded as being frozen in the system.

My car isn't the GTI but the information is exactly the same regarding the time frame and not being able to alter the spec after a certain date.

It was just from your links it seemed yours was confirmed about 3 weeks after ordering. I was just wanting to clear up in my head that in your case that it was due to been a confirmed build date not just a provisional one. As i have read elsewere others that were giving a provisional build date also had problems changing but that maybe due to the small options those people wanted to add and the dealer simply did not want the hassle.
I was thinking of adding 5 other options, the extra total coming to £1370rrp so my dealer if my build week was not confirmed last Thursday by some flook or they misread it last Tuesday may go for it then do you think?

I was told by VW customer care, its immaterial how much the extras cost or what the extras were that I wanted to add. If the build week is confirmed then the only way to do it is to cancel and re order. Its due to the logistics and the thousand or so cars going through the production line every week along with those being queued (confirmed dates) to go through it.

I only had 3 weeks till my confirmed date as there was only a 12 week wait on my car.

3 weeks till confirmed date.
confirmed build date of 5 weeks coming
4 weeks from build to ownership
12 week wait all in.

I don't think I could wait all that time you and others have waited. I know it makes the car all the more special but it would drive me to despair.

Snoopy let me know how you get on.

If our March order gets delayed like yours I may well add Xennons as was really undecided about them at the time, and only due to cost, but if its going to be later, I'd have more time to save for them.

I got my build week confirmed very early. I added options throughout and as late as a 4 weeks before the build week (44). No problems whatsoever. I think my dealer said 10-14 days was the cut-off point.

I placed my order at the start if September, it was a car already in the system that the dealer had specced a few weeks prior. I had 5 dats to amend the spec before it went to 'locked for build' status. I was then given week48 build unconfirmed in approx week 43, and confirmed build week 47 in week 45.   Was built on 24th November.

Dealer told me any alterations after tha initial 5 day period meant a new order.

^ So im guessing your saying he said about 8weeks before the build before it went to 'locked for build' and you got a build week (unconfirmed) you could change.

I wonder if mine which has "factory ordered" can still be changed then, as its not listing a provisional build week any longer, and looks like mine may endup with week 06 build week or there abouts at this rate.

Sorry for all the questions people :undecided: i want to get it clear in my head before i email my dealer as they are not the most helpful in the world so far  and i want to make sure i know exactly how the system works so they cannot fob me off
