Title: is the 16valve gearbox different to 8 valve
Post by: billydude on 09 October 2004, 12:00
as above realy
are the ratios the same etc ?

as we currently have a 1.8 carb box fitted but have two 8 valve gti gearboxs here
so is it worth changeing ?

as far as i know the ratios are different! because its a 16v goes faster top end so will have higher gear ratios
where as the 8v runs out of gears quick!

the revs will be lower if you fit the 16v box to an 8v!

2nd and 5th gear are longer in a 8v gearbox, the others are the same i think

Hmmm I wonder what the ratios are as this carb box does 70 in second  :D and I know the 8 valve don't go that high 55-60 is seconds limit
I don't know what to do wether to run this carb box till it drops or mess about fitting an 8 valve box  :-\

simply work it out using the gear ratio link

early 8v's only do 59.8mph ;) and a 16v will only do 62 on the limiter
