Post by: AdamBeevers on 25 November 2009, 20:33
Hi my idle speed is abit eratic on my golf and i was simply wondering how to tighten the throttle cable. I have taken the airbox of and looked at the carb but there doesnt seem to be any screws or anything to tighten on the wire, can anyone help?

cheers

look at the end of the cable where it sits in that metal harnes type device. theres two clips to it, the end clip is where it the end of the cable is held, the clip before it is where you can adjust it. You have to adjust the cable not the throttle body.

Although i dont think this will solve your problem.

Dude get it plugged into vagcom!

I had bad idling problems with my 1.6 (same setup as 1.4) when I first got it, and whenever I came to a stop, the engine cut out! .. I tried adjusting the cable, changing plugs, changing dizzy cap, changing air filter, changing ecu relay, etc etc, none of which actually worked so I had doubts about me getting it to run right and wanted to scrap it!

Went round to my mechanic, he plugged it into his computer, it came up with about 3 faults so he checked them on the computer and they were all sensors or switches built into the throttle body. My mate was breaking a 1.6 so I asked for the throttle body, he gave it to me for free because he didn't know if it worked, I fitted it, and everything was perfect again! I was over the moon

I don't normally have faith in computerised crap but this actually worked and I couldn't believe it
