I have a 1.6 16v year 2000 golf. The problem is, when I am driving the car is running fine but then an oil pressure warning comes on and the revs die. The rev counter shows 0 but you can usually get the car to a safe place at very low revs. The coolant temp gauge on the dash is also a bit temperamental.
Will the two be linked?
what do you think?

I would get it checked asap and don't use it again until you have it sorted.

What does the temp gauge do? That could be a dodgy temperature sender for the coolant.
-
sometimes the temp gauge does not move.
Once it would go up to just about running temp then drop back then go up again. It did this 3 or 4 times then ran at normal.
thanks for the input so far

that sounds like a faulty thermostat

I fitted a new oil pressure switch and coolant temp switch.
The problem now. The car starts and runs fine till it gets to normal operating temp then it won’t rev above 2000rpm, when you try to rev it, it goes to 2000 then cuts out.
